I went there Friday. This is why I won't go back.

The atmosphere was decent, it was a little small, but thats not bad. The prices were reasonable. I don't even care that they had but 1 Canadian beer.

What bothered me is that the music kept cutting out. I don't know if it was intentional or not, but it happened 3-4 times in an hour. Then people would all throw peanuts at the guy behind the bar. The throwing got a little out of hand, and then a wooden bowl came flying my way.

After that, some drunk cacksucker stood up on his stool and was just generally being an idiot. It looked like he might fall backwards, right onto my chair. My biddy and I got up and left.

Hey, if any of you guys are these idiots, you might want to tone down your behaviour. I used to think foreigners held their liquor better than Koreans, but I changed my mind. Also, if the owner is a friend of yours, you cost him some business.

I heard a rumour, so this could be entirely false. But someone told me that the guys who set up the bar, a couple of Canadians, had the business pulled out from under them by their financial backer. Apparently they didn't have a business licence so went in with a Korean lady. She sold her half of the business and the buyer just took over. Technically it was all in his name now so there was nothing they could do.

The rumour went on that the guys who set it up as "the Canadian Bar" will be re-opening sometime in Dec.

Not that that has much to do with your story and the drunken buffoonery, but from what I've heard maybe you didn't experience the "real" Rocky Mountain Bar.

The new one is open, it's on the main road by the Itaewon Hotel. I hear it's huge. Boycott those other dumps: Big Electric Cat, Limelight, Gecko's, Gecko's Garden, Whatever the Rocky Mtn is called now. The owner, Jin, is a total cow. Ex-juicy girl, married a Canadian guy and opened Gecko's with him, dumped him and moved on. High prices, crap service, loser staff. To hell with them.

Entirely true - Corey, Jamie, Tyler et al kinda got the shaft as far as I've been informed.. All of us in the waygook Ice hockey community have written it off on account so we're with the OP on that

About the Peanuts, if you've ever been to a mountain ale n' debauchery house in Canada, you'd understand. Throwing the nuts is a token of one's esteem, at least I would assume that's the way it was intended by those chuckin' nuts

i wrote the place off just because of the atmosphere. remember that stretch of lockers in high school where all the cool kids hung out and didn't have much use for anyone else who didn't wear a mondetta shirt? well....that sums up the staff etc. the one night i went with some friends. typical hockey pucks from back home.

amen, went there one day for a co-workers birthday. too small, too crowded, and the folks there looked like the rabid fan section at a hip show (not dissing the hip, just most of their fans). the last poster was right. plus some fucking plug tried to hit on my girlfriend about 5 seconds after we arrived. no fucking thank you, very much.

I've never been to the RMT, but you people act like you've never been to a bar before. People get drunk, girls get hit on. Get off the keyboard. Pussies.

the new place is by the big stairs which goes up to hooker hill...

the place is not that big.. 2 floors but only about 30pyung each floor..
yes Jin is a cow she pulled it from under them and then sent in those others boys.. Jin is now opening another bar called lounge with the Ex hollywood owner..

I also heard cory got deported.. so they are all waiting for his return b4 they open.. becuase he is out of the country.. not sure why.. heard deported but who knows for sure..

anyway good luck to them.. that new place might be ok.. the location is alittle off the main drag. but then again.. probably just for the locals of the other bar anyway.. canadians, fresbie players, hockey players etc..
im sure it has a couple years in it.. as a few bars do..

The one I went to was right beside (or on top of) The Big Electric Cat.

Are there 2 Rocky Mountain Taverns? I don't understand this.

Anyways, about the peanuts, it was mildly annoying, but I can deal with it. It was the thrown bowl that bothered me.

The one by Big Electric Cat is not the real RMT- I think they have changed the name or will be soon. I won't be going there, cuz the original crew and customers there built the place up (especially over WHC '04), only to have the carpet pulled from beneath them. I don't know all the details, but I know enough.

The new one is up the street a bit. Location is not as good as before, but the same people will keep going back, and I'm pretty sure it will do okay.

And yeah- the peanut thing sucks. The last time I was there before it was changed was on Halloween, and the throwing was pretty much frowned upon. Still, drunken asshats with disposable, throwable items = Throwing.... Same thing pissed off Esa Tikkanen a few months back, actually. He returned, though!

Well,I couldn't tell it as well as someone else here, but I believe the gist is that Steve was there one night and he was completely trashed, absolutely wobbly, and people were throwing peanuts at him and he was trying to catch them in his mouth all slack-jawed.

I've seen him at California Fitness in Myongdong doing pretty much the same thing.
