For me it was alright in some ways, painful in others.

Beginning of the year:
Second-degree sprain of left foot, broken heel bone, injured achilles tendon, on the first beautiful Sunday of the year, early January near Auckland, New Zealand, on a break from the CELTA I completed there that month, I was cliff jumping (more like, big rock leaping) and landed in a deceptively shallow area, nailed the landing, but the 3-4 metre jump took its toll. The tendon impaired regular walking for four months, then on and off for the next six months.

Middle of the year:
Broken big toe on the right foot, only a hairline fracture but the most intense ten minutes of pain I've ever felt, as a result of a student's desk being accidentally tipped over onto it in the summer. Two weeks of limping followed by nothing but a black toenail to date, though having to put most of my weight on the left foot re-injured the achilles heel from the earlier injury.

End of the year:
Major sprain of left ankle (again), torn ligaments and muscles all the way up to the knee, MCL damage, unstable knee, all because I tripped on the ridge while entering the bathroom in the middle of the night in early December. Two weeks of no support at all, on crutches, followed by cancellation last-minute of holiday to the beaches of Thailand due to continued ligament and joint pain.

All this to someone who never sprained or broke any body part ever before, who daily relies on his feet to climb four flights of stairs to his elevator-less apartment on the rooftop, who took walks every morning the previous two years here, and who had run marathons when younger to no ill effect ever back then.

2005, the year of the foot. Confused

2005: Awesome. I moved to Seoul. Best thing I've ever done.

I upgraded my job, visited canada, bought a motorbike, started a master's degree, and also sprained my ankle (drunken-dancing down stairs).

Saved nothing. Bah. Next year will be the year of saving (for posterity)

2005 was a good year. I'm happier than I've ever been and I love my job. The only real downside this year was the lack of international travel. I'm hoping to fix that in '06. Cool

Started off OK, went rapicly down hill, bit of a stressful summer though I also had lots of time off and did some travelling, fantastic autumn and beginning of winter. I think work defines my life a bit too much.

Globally it was supershitty. Personally, it was bad until September when I moved to Seoul. I just hope it's better on a global scale next year.

One of those years I'll look back on when I'm (insert older age here) and say, "That was a turning point in my life."

A turning point in a good way.

Besides all the intense personal self-improvement/discovery/blah blah blah, I got a cat, paid off my college credit card, and had a great vacation. I have likewise saved no money (and have no good reason for this) but am not worried about it.

Bad compared to what? It was better than 2004. I thought it was a pretty tame year globally.

Personally it was painful, globally not bad.

Great!

if 2006 is half as good as 2005 I'll be a very happy man.
