Hi,
I got my passport pic taken a few days ago. It's the worst pic I've ever taken (flourescent lighting, inept camera girl). Since I know how important the pic is for the job, I'm going to go get something professionally done to send in with my app.
Should I still use the crap pic for my passport???
Thanks,
John |

u joined on my b-day...
anyways. i dunno where u are, but at my university passport photos and professional photos are shot in this one university building.
if u don't like the pic, i'd say try and see if a university near you offers those types of services...
was your pic taken with a digital camera? mine were, so i got to see them before they sent them out. see if they offer that also... |

This was some braindead minimum wage slacker working at the local Walgreens who:
1) coundn't get the camera to "warm up" properly, so had to call the manager after screwing with it for 10 minutes.
2) had to ask me to retake the photo after the first try because there was no film in the camera.
3) said she couldn't scan the godawful polaroid looking thing for some lame reason I've barred from my mind.
Yeah, the camera looked like one of those 1960's polariod things your parents had back when Polaroids were cool.
Digital??? What a great idea. Maybe someone here in Albatucky can hook that up. |

I'll do you one better...
Before I came here for my first gig, my employer asked me for a copy of my passport photo. I figured he needed it for immigrations or something.
When I and my new Canadian co-worker got there, we arrived to see big huge posters all over the walls of the building displaying our pictures and stats about our University life.
Ugh.... of all the photos he could have used..... |

LOL I always seem to have really bad photos taken for official documents. I feel like the biggest tool submitting them, as well, but I guess I'm not vain enough to keep trying until I look ehm, beautiful. (I mean for Chrissakes, driver's license photos are universally bad, it's not YOU, it's the equipment they use.)
Also, another thing, when I sit for the photos, usually the photographer insists I don't smile cause then my eyes won't disppear, and then I look homicidal. I had the same thing happen to me as Derrek. The school I worked for last year wanted some photos of me. So I sit for them and am told not to smile. I'm thinking whatever, it's probably for an official document, they'll bury this picture in my file, and instead, it's used to promote the school's hagwan program. LOL
Having said that, I recently took some photos for a new visa and they came out OK, thank God. |

on the flip side my passport photo looks a lot better than I actually do, so when people see it they go "What happened? Have you been ill?"- tis probably just as bad as the opposite. |

At this point, I would have left the store. Surely, even in Podunk, there is a Walgreens competitor or AAA or equivalent? |

I have a theory here. You know how when you listen to yourself on tape you think "Do I sound like that?" And people say "yes" but you have a hard time believing because you hear your own voice through your skull and it changes the pitch a bit. However unattractive our voices sound to us on tape, that's how people really perceive our voice.
That same rule applies to passport/drivers license photos. How people truly perceive you is not how you see yourself in a mirror. To them, you are the spitting image of your passport photo.
Keeps me up at night, really. |

My worst pic ever --
I was on my deathbed for 2 straight days with the ebola or some equally nasty shiat. I managed to crawl outta bed and drag my ass into the taxi i called still wearing the sweat pants and t-shirt I had been wearing for the past 3 days.
When i got to the medical clinic and gave the lady my health card she looked at it and said, "Oh, your card is expired. Luckily we can renew it right now. We just need you to stand over there so that we can take a new picture of you."
result - some hobbit looking sparkx with afro hair combed with a pillow
(i still use that card too) |

The "studios" that are found on every Korean street are awful, I have never had an even half decent picture taken in one. Their lighting is grotesque for one thing and the photgraphers don't know what they're doing.
The best mug shots in Korea are from the booths- but even then you'll often find they have the light of a nuclear blast that washes you out completely. |

Oh it gets worse. I have another theory that there's also a strong and causal relationship between the quality of your photo and your success in marriage and career... |
