I was asked to interview some teachers at another school as a favor to the principal. I wasn't very well-infomed, and arrived there prepared to interview several foreign teachers. When I arrived, I learned I would be interviewing Korean English teachers!
I was a little disappointed, because I looked forward to meeting some other foreigners and seeing how well they interviewed, but it was a fun experience anyway. I think a few of the 5 guys I interviewed sort of got a shock when they learned that a foreigner was interviewing them in English.
Virtually all of the questions I had pre-planned were worthless, since they were Koreans, but it was pretty obvious that the point of my being there was simply to converse and makes notes about their English proficiency.
I recommended 2 of them --
1. had a very clear accent, but was not a fast speaker. Could be a little shy and seemed nervous to talk to me, although it was obvious he was over-thinking due to the uncomfortable situation. His accent was the best of all 5, though, and his grammar was acceptable. He had this weird nervous look on his face, following my hand gestures with his whole head.
2. Very conversational and even used humor. Seemed like a genuinely nice guy who was also fun to know. His speaking wasn't perfect but he wasn't difficult to understand.
The other three guys ranged from a grammar nut who used perfect grammar with a strong accent to a few other guys who were nice but not up to par with the other 3 in terms of conversation.
I wonder who they picked. |
