Ok. I live in K(G)unsan. I want to get certified so I can teach in other countries after this. Since I can't go to Seoul everyday, what can I do? I'm leery of doing this online. I called the university here, and they said they'd call me back, but, alas. So does anybody know my options? |

The University of Saskatchewan has a certificate program click here that is a lot of work over eight months but it's entirely doable via distance mode and it's the only program in Canada that's fully recognized as on par with regular on-site certification programs. But how much it'll help you in other countries I don't know.
I am just finishing my second year contract and am going to New Zealand to take a 4-week intensive CELTA course in January before returning to Korea for a third year. It'll help me teach in the near future and - since it's highly respected in other regions of the world - it'll help me get teaching positions in other countries over the longer term. I'm planning six months in Hungary in a future spring/summer (no EU passport needed), as well as back home someday possibly.
So why not take a month off between contracts to do a reputable on-site certificate program somewhere? |

How would I even begin to do that? I started out in Korea with nothing. I thought maybe I'd do this for awhile until I wanted to go back to the "real world," but now I actually want to do this as a real job. I want to do this in other countries. |

Why do you need an "MST3K" certificate? Why not just download the show and have some fun laughing at their crap!?!
Or is it something that I'm not familiar with?

Op-One thing you can look into is a program being started at Gyeongsang National University. They are offering a TESOL course as well as a teaching internship. The catch is you don't get paid during the three months, but you do get room and board as well as utitlites paid for. Afterward there is a summer camp that pays and it is 4 weeks.
I'm going there in Feburary. I've heard they plan on having another session later in the year after this one is finished.

Good idea, but the contract I'm in right now ends in August. This is something I can only do after work or on the weekends. Is all hope lost?? |
