Korean economy among the worst performers in Asia
Korea will likely be among Asia's worst performing economies this year and next year, as consumption remains shy and demand in its major export markets fades, LG Economic Research Institute predicted yesterday. In a report based on figures from the United Nations and International Monetary Fund, the think tank said all the leading Asian economies except Japan will outpace Korea. Overall, economic growth in Asia will average 7.7 percent this year and 6.9 percent in 2005, said LG Institute.
