Greetings and salutations! After reading the forums for months and researching tirelessly, I have finally decided to just bite the bullet and go with a school....does anyone know anything good/bad about KIS (King's International School) in Bundang? I appreciate it!

To all prospective teachers, I strongly urge you to stay away from King's International School located in Bundang. The reason is that the owner of the school Mr. Moon (Daniel) is an immoral person. There were around 4 teachers who worked there under the contract. The two teachers named Kecia and Emily had to leave the country without their promised year-end severance pay and lesser of two months pay because the owner refused to pay them. At the end of November 2004, Mr. Moon should have had paid their severance pay as stated in the contract. Because he didn��t want to pay, he deliberately made them leave the country by not paying their pay at all. He told them with some unreasonable excuses. Even on the last day, he delayed their air-plane ticket back to US without telling them, so the teachers�� parents in the US wasted 5 hours driving to the airport. Another foreign teacher from Canada was evicted from her one room office where school provided. The reason was because she refused to teach because she didn��t receive her pay for more than 2 months and her overtimes. Also, she only had one more month left in her contract to get her severance. Because of this, she demonstrated outside the school with post-signs written ��KIS pay the teachers��. The owner threatened to sue her and said he��ll call the police if she didn��t stop. So, eventually, she got really scared and cried and she ended up begging the owner to even just pay half of her payment. The owner paid her only a half and made her sign a letter saying that she received the full-amount and will not take any legal actions against the school. The owner needed this letter to settle the case with the labor department. The owner Mr. Moon of KIS School is insane and immoral. So far, there were about 8 teachers (foreigners and Korean teachers) who left the school without pay. As of today, KIS replaced almost every teacher except one teacher, and they even replaced the front desk employees and the manager of the school named Cathy. Everything got ugly and despite the matter of money, all the teachers were frustrated and mentally and physically abused by Mr. Moon. The owner is taking advantage of foreign teachers since they can��t speak any Korean and don��t know how to file a suit against the school. Only thing that��s in Mr. Moon��s mind is that he��ll just hire new teachers and staffs every one or two months later.

assuming this is true I feel bad for the people that is for sure...
but they sound like they were not quite equipped for some of the things that can happen working overseas.

I guess having worked for a long time "in the real world" (whatever that is) it is difficult to think back to a time where I would allow myself to be in that position. And if I had enough balls to get out there with a sign and camp outside his door you can be SURE I wouldn't be signing anything other than my own lawsuit.

Explains why a lot of the less scrupulous directors put my resume directly in the trash bin. They like to hire 'em "young and dumb".

Me again, I'm afraid! Question: How much weight should one give the recommendations of current teachers at prospective schools? I have received so many job offers from sketchy recruiters that I am starting to become really paranoid!

KIS is a fruad!!
not only does that school rip off the parents by trying to say they are a internatonal school and charging the students 20 million won a year!!
they pay there teachers hakwon prices and treat them like crap..
its just a hakwon !! but the owner is obviously a money hungry fraud!!
you want to work with a crook.. then go ahead!

Be very very careful of Daniel Moon and KIS in Bundang. I had an interview with him a couple of weeks ago and he only offered me a part time job at very low money. He told me that KIS was the third school he had set up and run (thats sounds really fishy), the place is really dirty and teachers room small and crampy.

Lots of the hagwons in Korea are struggling at the moment and he is one of them!!

If you are Canadian remember your skills (North American accent) is sought after and don't fall for crap like KIS. Go for one of the bigger franchises which I think is a better bet, or better still come to Korea and then try for a job.

That was a cool thing do: post an ad saying 4 million/month and then put all that info about what a crap job it would be. Lots of views, and the website doesn't seem to mind the truth.
