my contract ends beginning of january but i'd like to stay another 3 months. should i make a 6 month contract and then get a letter or release in march?
my boss knows i definitely want to go in march, just not sure about what immigration stipulates. my preference would be to make it a 3 month deal in case it gets hairy later.. |

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe you can extend a contract for however long you want- if the boss agrees. I know a few people who've extended thier contract for a month without a hitch. |

as long as you can reach an agreement with your employer, you can renew a contract for as many months as you wish. don't renew for longer than you have to and you won't need the release.
immigration is another story.
they allow a full year visa extension if you remain at the same school. and i know they also allow a 3 month extension, as a friend has done that.
so, logically, they shouold allow a 6month extension. |

I believe that you can extend a contract for whatever duration of time that both you and your employer agree upon. An amendment will be made to your contract and a trip to immigration as notification of your intention to remain at the same workplace for the desired length of time in addition to your first year of employment. This can only be done within a two year period working for the same employer. Anything beyond the two year period requires a visa run for E2 holders.
