Well everytime I read any of the 4 main English papers here, it seems as if the Korean people are the greatest humans in the world.........look at the headlines today............

KOREAN SOCCER TEAM CRUSHES GERMANY 3-1

Korean Cell Phones to Seize Half of U.S. Market in 2005

KOREAN LIFE EXPECTANCY HITS 77

Korean Scientists Identify Gene Causing Sleep Disorders

Korean golfers invade U.S. tours

Korean Pop Star Woos Japan

Korean Wave not Slowing

KOREAN ACTRESS MAKES HOLLYWOOD A-LIST

WHY DO HOLLYWOOD LEADS PREFER KOREAN LADIES

Japanese Tourists Flock to Korea

I kid you not, these were all the headlines from today, I mean it is not just today, but everyday, if I were an alien from a different planet I would think that this country was the greatest place on earth, filled with supermen and superwomen who the world is lucky to have.............

n'est pas? Shocked

c'est vrai.

I told my husband last night that if I saw one more clip on how Bae Yong Jun is really popular in Japan I'd lose it. But yeah, that's just one example. And I thought my country had inferiority issues. Rolling Eyes

So, you're complaining that English-language newspapers in Korea have put the emphasis on things Korean? Much unlike any mainstream, say, American or Canadian news source? And that all of these things add up to some sort of indictment on Korean's perceived global superiority? Why because these "papers" are in English should their stories not be related to Korea?

Give me a fucking break, jack.

If it bugs you that much, I suggest the International Herald Tribune.

Mercury is correct....koreans are overrated.....especially when it comes to tooting their own horn. It does get tiresome reading all the BS that koreans write about themselves. Dealing with koreans is like dealing with bright adolescents. They're full of energy and want to do everything yesterday. But they throw tantrums and are prone to dangerous and erratic behavior if their whims are not indulged.

Mercury makes a strong case.. so I will now agree with you that Koreans are the greatest humans in the world.

I had some doubts before.. but the Korean Wave not Slowing was the clincher.

from the sounds of it NO. I mean, if Korea was the only place I lived, I might think the way Indy Truck thinks, or be even more in the dark.

check out some of the other "English" newspapers from around the world. I will give you a research project Indy..........look at English newspapers from Mexico, Germany, France, England. And compare the headlines with the headlines in the 4 Korean papers.

And then.........tell me if you saw something different. I just wish the States did their news like the Koreans here...........I could see it now.........

AMERICAN FILMS A BIG HIT OVERSEAS

AMERICAN HIP HOP MUSIC IS WINNING IN KOREA

AMERICAN FOOTBALL WATCHED IN 18 COUNTRIES

AMERICAN HISTORY TO BE TRANSLATED INTO KIPSIGIS (african language)

I love it. So, if a country touts itself, is is full of it? If a country makes movies that show that country as being great, it is propoganda? Come on guys... We live in KOREA! Do you expect headlines like these...

Canada is the Best Country in the World

Aussie Scientists are Smarter than We Are

Americans are Better at Every Sport

Good luck... Rolling Eyes

Perhaps that Yonsama dude is more poular in Japan, but I just got back from Japan last week and there is more tacky stuff of him here in Korea than in Japan (fortunately). I saw him on a few magazines in Japan, and on TV twice. More surprisingly, I saw a comedy show totally taking the piss out of him with two fellas just imitating his cheesy grin and soft-spoken manner...like I real tourist, I took photos of it (of the TV screen of all things...)

Of course there is nothing with bragging rights. Every country and everyone does it. And that is fine. No different in korea. But I dont see Canada tooting their horn everyday over something, nor do I see Japan blowing their own horn day in and day out like koreans.
Koreans take it to the extreme it seemsand then some.

The key is avoiding the main English newspapers published in Korea with the exception of the the IHT, or else read the news online. Like Arirang "news", they're crap.

Yes, yes, koreans are evil, they make you work in a job you applied for and it turned out to be nothing like you expected, no one speaks your language, they all do things differently from back home, and they're all racists unlike us perfect people from the center of the universe, and god-damn do Koreans all suck ass.

Thank the lord they keep coming up with all of this minor stuff to keep giving some of you something to unload your baggage upon.
