It all seems OK, the boss seemed nice enough, but he wants the foreign teachers to work Saturdays, 2-6. The schedule still adds up to about 25-30 classes per week (45 minute classes), so it isn't a real heavy load, it's just not having Saturdays all free, and going to the "office" 6 out of 7 days can be a drag. The pay is 2 million. I think if he said 2.2 or 2.3 I'd be more willing to say "sure". Maybe I'll ask for 2.2 and see if he'll go for it. The previous teacher just bailed on him a few days ago, so he may be in a tough position to say no to a request for higher pay.

If it weren't for the Saturdays, I wouldn't hesitate...

Besides the previous teacher, how many others have "just bailed on him"? More than a few means big red flag time.

I agree with trevorcollins. You can definitely find something for 2 million for 5 days a week.

Why? Why do it!? Why start setting a precedent by working Saturdays! Are you that desperate for a job? If soyoure in the wrong profession.
If you get two days off during the weekwell then OK. But a six day work week? It does not matter if the work load is easy or not!
Pretty soon other hakwons will want teachers to work on the weekends also.
Stay awayand look elsewhere. Butjudging from your post.youll do it. And thats a shame.

Tell him you'll do it if there are no Saturdays. It's not worth it, especially for the lousy 2 mil. You need a full two days off a week if you're going to have any kind of life outside of work.

Aw, man, the going in. Boss seems like a nice enough guy and yet something is wrong, a little bit wrong, with working Saturdays, isn't it? I worked Sundays for three hours this last job and got, without asking for it, 25,000 an hour. The management knew it was asking alot. But it was besides/on top a six hour block M-F.
He knows, the boss, you're leaking money looking and want to hustle into job, but bargain a little if you can. Get something for that Saturday work, a bit more. He's needing something since someone just bailed. Yon haggie owner figures f-teachers are just shluffing around in their pajamas, and they're doing them a favour. Uh-uh, there's that '40% of the job is class management' and the kids don't really want to be there.
He might be thinking, or say, that he doesn't know whether you're going to work hard, with energy. Maybe you can work something out. That doesn't leave you feeling you've sold yourself short to get landed quick. A year's a long time.

Listen...My boss just advertised a great job last week. its 1.9 but believe me -- that extra 100 thou is not going to help you keep your sanity when you always feel burned out. If you want a "good one" email me for the details.

That's like asking your girlfriend how many men she's slept with!

What's the rule? Numbered answer Xs 5 = closer to true amount?

Look at the whole picture: advantages v disadvantages. You may work saturdays, but you may also have a good workplace atmosphere, good syllabus, live close to work, get paid reliably on time, etc etc.
On the other hand, you could get a M-F job for more cash, but suddenly find the boss is satan and he scr*ws you as much as he possibly can.
Its hard to tell...
If you've left yourself short of money arriving here, then you may have to take the first thing that comes up and get on with it.
Are you American? Because many Americans /Canadians go on like 2.3 is a normal base pay.
Try being Kiwi or south african, or any other nationality- we don't get a pay rise for our passport like they do..
Just do what you feel. This board is full of people boasting they get paid the earth for 2 hours a week or whatever. Its balls.Make up your own mind.. I'd rather have 2.0 than 2.1 if it means I get a proper organised syllabus and reliable boss.

Back in Korea, eh? What happened to all the good money that could be made in Vietnam or whatever? Anyhow, the director says that one person has done the run. That isn't a good sign and should tell you a little about how things work around there. She says only one person has bolted, but how do you really know? If she is as desperate as you say she is, she might be trying to cover her ass by lying and saying anything to get you to sign. Saturdays? With all of the freakin' jobs in Korea....why, oh why, would you work on Saturday? Not me...I'm not Korean. I like my weekends free and easy......
