Just had a wee talk with the vice-principle and I mentioned that I would like the students to have an ESL conversation textbook for next year. Surprisingly he agreed, and said whatever I want I'm sure the school can accommodate me.
The classes will be about 20 students in size of mixed level ability (2nd Grade High school), from basic to advanced ,I'm looking for a Pre-intermediate level book, with lots of speaking practice, not too difficult and not too easy, with a workbook if possible.
Is anyone using a book at their schools that they would recommend?
Thanks |

Surely someone can recommend an appropriate book, or are you too busy bitching about how terrible Korea and Koreans are, or whether or not your contract is legit. |

Try "Teen Talk 1" and "Teen Talk 2" by Duane Vorhees. Its a great conversation series. You can also get a book called "Jazz English" which is a pretty good conversation starter.
Hope that helps.

I've used Interchange (there's also the new third edition recently released that looks basically the same), which seems alright. This is a Cambridge textbook. Try Student Book 1 or Intro.
I also have used another Cambridge text called Let's Talk which is pretty good for communicative activities, tasks, etc. Take a look at book 1.
Oxford also has a series called American Headway that is also pretty good. Try having a look at book 1. New Headway is the European version. |

I used Teen Talk 1 and 2 as suppliments. I like them.
For lower-level students, look into the "Get Real!" series by authors Buckingham and Craven. I use these in my classes as well. You must buy the teacher audio CD, though -- the CDs supplied with the books are only 1/2 of the material. There are workbooks too. You will find that this series helps mix things up to keep students from getting horribly bored. It has lots of listening and situational conversation I find useful. |
