On Geoje Island, an hour south of Busan, I still have to swat the occasional mosquito and have yet to need any of the many scarves, toques, gloves I'd brought to Korea in 2002.

But I'm in Busan tonight and friggin' frigid! Must be well under 10 degrees celcius, unlike the island.

And I'm facing the prospects of travelling up to Sokcho tonight, to arrive about 4 or 5 am, and I totally forgot that temperatures off the island are wintery in Korea!

I am wearing a rain jacket with sweats and am cold already. Now, here in the Busan bus terminal, it just occured to me to check the temperature in Sokcho now and in the morning. Zero celcius now and minus-six by the morning.

That's a good 15 degree swing in temperatures between Geoje and Sokcho.

I... am... c...o...l...d.

Wish I'd at least brought a scarf, though as I type this, my fingers want gloves.

I can't wait to retreat back to the land of pleasant 10 C rain on Christmas.

I find with the Korean winter, it isn't the air temperature so much, as the high level of humidity, or dampness, coupled with the cold that makes it seem so much colder. It really gets into your bones in Korea.
