My gf and I are arriving in Seoul in two weeks and we are planning on finding work in the city. Of course we want to find the best possible locale... so we want to find a place that isnt hell on the pocket book, makes us feel safe, is central or close to a subway line that takes us central, and also I love soccer so I would love an area where I could go outside with a ball and kick it around etc.
So here is a chance to talk up your specific neighbourhood and we would really appreciate it.
Cheers, |

hmmm ... most people arrive in seoul with a job/apt already. looking for work in a hogwan? kids/adults? get a good map of seoul online. the city is more or less divided by the Han river. North of the Han is older, more crowded and cheaper. South of the river is Kangnam, which is more new, clean and expensive. in the central area is Itaewon, which has the most foreigners. Hongdae/Shinchon are university areas. so choose one of those:Kangnam, Hongdae/Shinchon,Itaewon. |

kangnam isn't clean. it's as bad as (sh)itaewon in places. kangnam is a slum that's too big for its britches.
doesn't mean i disagree with el mafioso. he/she is right.
http://www.congnamul.com/ has an interactive map but i'm pretty sure it has no english. anything comparable out there folks? |

Where I live here in pretty nice, its ichon dong, close to everything, 5mins from Itaewon, 15 from Kangnam, 5 mins from Yongsan, its right next to the river, so there are lots of parks, skating areas, swimming pools etc. Its a pretty foreigner friendly place, and many of the locals speak English. There are quite a few schools in the area too. Its on the subway line, got a good bus service and in my opinion is pretty much in the center of things. Its a little expensive to live here but I think worth it. |

Yeah. Since you have a GF and won't be looking for a sweet Korean woman (right? you won't be trying to trade up, right?), try Bundang. The perfect place for young couples. |

Thanks for all the advice.
I've heard that Seoul is an expensive city to live in but i was wondering just how expensive is it? Is Pusan cheaper?
Since posting I have been thinking that I probably wont get much of a choice anyway!
