I always like to sit at the back of the plane. Travel agents sometimes seem mystified by this. "But you get off the plane last!" The key here is you get on the plane first. Me I'd rather get on the plane first, get my overhead bin, not have to chase someone out of my window seat they've "mistakenly" sat in, and just get the trip started. After 5 or 12 hours on a plane, I can wait an extra 15 minutes to deplane. I'm just so happy we've arrived.

A few years ago I read a survey of passengers regard seat preference. What do you prefer the window, aisle, or center seat? It pretty much breaks down between people who like the window for the view/wall to sleep on versus the aisle for ease of getting out (and maybe check out the stewardess' butts). Surprisingly something like 3 or 5% of people picked the center seat. No one could figure out why ANYONE wanted to sit in the middle seat as a first choice. The middle seat results were generally attributed to sampling error. People not really paying attention to what they were filling out, people just checking any old choice, etc.

Near the wing, toward the rear, often at the emergency exit or entrance hatch, where there's extra leg stretching room.

I've never been one of those rushing to get off. I'm the guy stretching his arms and taking his time, knowing he's just as likely to come out of the customs lines first as anybody is, and if two minutes later, it's not experienced as a loss.

I like aisle over the wing. I get nasty motion sickness so I tend to avoid the rear.

I always wonder why these people feel a great need to shove their way into the Bataan death march off the plane. Where are they rushing to? Unless they have only carry on, they're trying to make a break for baggage carousels that won't start spewing luggage for another 20 minutes.

Flying to Japan once, I had a Korean neighbour. Most of the flight was Japanese, and she was the only one in our section who stood up and was striding towards the door as soon as the plane landed on the tarmac. Of course the she was made to sit down but as soon as the seatbelt sign went off, she was outta there. The hilarious thing was that I took my sweet time and ended up standing immediately in front of her in the Immigration queue.

Anyway, I'm short, so I like the left window seat in front of the wing - but I need a seat in front to rest my feet on something!

Unless in business class up front, aisle, rear: it all depends in when your baggage comes off the carousel anyway. Drink trolley usually works from the rear forwards.

Plus, of course, planes rarely reverse into mountains.

My first choice is aisle so that I don't have to bother anyone if I want to stretch my legs, but then you get bumped by all the idiots walking up and down the plane annoying the stewardesses.

I also choose closest to the food compartment, preferable not on the same side as the lavatories, coz that's just irritating.

The only time I worried about seat placement though was when I did my visa run the first time. Too worried that I would get lost and not get to the embassy on time.

Except that, I've never given it a thought. I wonder if they would accept 'Anywhere is ok, providing the person in the next seat is a sexy, single bloke.' as an option. Wink

Aisle for a night flight and window for day. I love to look at the view. Even if it is just clouds.

I don't care where on the plane as long as I'm not next to a nervous flyer or a child.

Near the wing in an aisle seat for LONG flights, window seat for short flights. Exit rows are preferable. I'm only 5'3" and don't really need the extra leg room, it's just more comfortable. Perhaps I'm just really selfish and taking the good spots away from the tall people that actually need it. Oh well.

Always the window. Though it gets annoying not having any space- watching the landscape roll by is more than worth it. I especially enjoyed seing the sahara from above as well as Siberia. I wish I could figure some way to fly from Korea to US over the himalayas

Via Bangkok and Amsterdam? Actually, via Europe is not a long way round to the US East Coast.

On first, off last means I'll be sitting in that awful cramped seat for what could be an extra half hour. I always wait until the last minute to get on no matter where I'm sitting. The less time I have to spend in there the better. I also like to sit up front since I don't generally travel with baggage. I can be one of the first through immigration and I HATE waiting in lines, and then straight out of the airport. Since I'm often arriving late at night at my destination or am connecting to a flight that leaves in 45 minutes I like to be out of there first.

I like to be first on, sit by a window away from the wing so the view is good, have no one sit beside me, and then be first off.

Of course it never works out like that!!

I usually get a window seat over the wing and always wait to get on and wait to get off....
