in my recent job search i was called up by a particular technical college just outside of seoul which prides itself on having some of the best working conditions for foreign professors in korea. anyway rock up to the office and a guy is walking out of the office. I introduce myself in korean and he says "you're early" in english and walks off. anyway i thought it was a bit strange but follow him down the corridor and he ushers me into his office for an interview. he is the head honcho and fires off questions left right and centre- nothing to do with teaching of course. a typical exchange would be that he tells me about how some of the teachers compain about their schedules and get angry- would i get angry if i got a 'bad schedule'? and while i am halfay through my response he fires off another question. anyway after thirty minutes of this he stops as though it is the end of the interview and i am about to get up and he looks at me and says " I'm tired" and then he says "you don't laugh". anyway of course i haven't heard back from them but went to two normal interviews after that that actually involved a discussion about teaching so it is interesting for me to see the contrast. Anyway this is merely idle speculation on my behalf but i was wondering if that bloke is a real nut case or what- the college offers great money- any teaching over ten hours a weel is overtime, four day work weeks. anybody else have an interview with this korean professor or even work for him?- i suppose for the money and working hours you can put up witha fruit loop boss- but anyway i have a feeling he wouldn't give a rats what actually happens in the classroom. maybe other people have strange job interview stories as well.

I had a job interview with one univ. a few years back. The interview went OK but I never heard from them again - or so I thought. I took a different job and - come March - already started in the new job - I get a phone call ... "Where are you?" Like, they expected me to be already there, without even telling me. And then the guy gets really angry with me for wasting HIS time. What an idiot!

My Korean woman friend had a job interview. The guy kept coming back to "Your age is 28 but you look old. Why do you look old?"

I think this quack is well known. I interviewed with him and got the exact same treatment, and everyone else evidently does, too. One of my co-workers from a previous job worked for the guy and said once you're hired you never see him and the benefits are quite good. So my advice is to endure His Weirdness and get the good job and benefits.
