Very slow--esp to Shanghai which is 42 hours from Incheon. A little more merciful if you are going to Beijing. 20 hours or so to Tianjin -an hour train to Beijing or 18 hours to Qingdao which is one of the better cities in China.
I always wimp out and fly but a friend of mine (certain guy from Boston home of the defending World Series ... ) tells me it aint too bad. They sell (reasonable prices) both Chinese and Korean food and drink.
I would never spend 2 days on a ferry to Shanghai when you can fly in 90 minutes but the Peking end might be OK. Cost to that area is about 900 Y or 110,000 Won. Not bad but you can fly for not too much more. I guess it depends on what you are up to. On a holiday sure it might be cool.
PS You can also ferry to the China - N Korea border town but dont know details... |

I've taken it twice. The first time was from inchon to tanjin, near beijing. Once everything was loaded on and off, you're looking at 24 hours. (These ships not only ship people, but they also ship big sea conainers full of cargo, and it takes a while to get all that stuff on).
The second time was from incheon to yantai, near Qingtao. This was about 14-16 hours.
i would suggest you go with at least one friend, or else they'll put you in a room with a stranger, and that is usually lame. It would defintely be fun if you went with a larger group, as there is a bar, nightclub/no-rae bang on the ship.
Last time i went on the ship solo, and these japanese and korean businessmen asked me to join em at the bar. Then they made me sing at the no-rae bang. So i sang "Cocaine" by eric clapton. They had no idea what it meant.
Cocaine rocks! |

Are you serious? I've never seen tickets to Beijing for less than 400,000. Can anyone tell me where to buy tickets for this, how to get to the boat, who to contact, etc.? Or if someone knows of plane tickets to China for 200,000 I would love in on that racket. Thanks. |

I went to Tianjin from Incheon. Great boat ride, over night. Had disco and beer and food and hanging out on deck. Very nice. 30 dancing ajummas (probably involved with import-export) were getting drunk on budweisers all night long in the disco. Hilarious and a good time! |
