I find these Korean shows funny... they're like games shows kind of, sometimes with teams, sometimes competing for the attention of some girl or something. Normally they're all like 20 and the guy leading it is a heavier like 40 year old.

The other day the guys had to carry a girl and go under a stick at a certain height without knocking it down. Tonight there was one... the heart show or something where the guys were trying to roll together on the ground to see who could roll the fastest or try to dance around to impress the girl. And they also were flicking each other on the head when another messed up.

I found myself laughing out loud sometimes. And I can't understand Korean. Not sure how these shows would work in the West...

What're the names of these shows?

I live with a Korean in a studio so I have the misfortune of having these stupid comedy shows blasting in the background. That's why I constantly retreat to a coffee house and bury myself in a book. Maybe it's my cynic side, but I don't find a group of lanky men doing a relay race, or bonking each other's heads with oversized inflated hammers all that funny Evil or Very Mad
***I especially hate it when someone falls or does something else "funny" that they have to always replay it three times!!

If there is one thing in this country that I can label as my biggest hate it is Korean TV. Every drama is a damn soap opera. The shows where they do different events has to be one of the stupidest things I have ever seen (there are so many of these shows I always wonder if it is this "celebrity event show" that makes the person famous or a previous show that made them actually get invited on the "celebrity event show"). I was watching Brain Survivor with the in-laws and noticed this. A couple of women were wearing sleavless shirts, while the other half were dressed in enough winter gear for an expedition to the artic. Your in a god damn TV studio for god sakes!

This is what happens when the government flips the bill for TV stations.

On the other hand, I really love Korean movies (except for the typical two guys and one girl movies).

I agree with Chiaa alot there, except I dislike all Korean movies.

Music videos piss me off, always someone dying for love, and they are 16 years old. Plus the girl just stands there and cries, while the boy gets the crap beat out of him.

I agree with the above posters. All Korean comedy shows are crap and so are the soap operas. The comedy shows are the worst and can't believe the juvenile, unoriginal obstacle courses they have all the time. Especially seeing adults doing these 12-year-old amusements. Comedy shows are the WORST part of Korean culture. The Soap operas are also too dramatic and cheesy and I get sick of all the fake crying that goes on.
But I do agree with Chiaa that some Korean movies are excellent.
Give me a half-funny Korean comedy show and I'll tell you that Hell suddenly froze over! Evil or Very Mad

**But then again I hate many American T.V shows as well. Survivor is the worst crap and can't find how people love a group of people who just sit on logs and b*tch about each other.

YEah, I find myself laughing out loud at some of these shows.

Most of the shows' contestants are K-pop performers, so that's kinda what makes it so funny.

The hosts are always good for a laugh too. The one you're talking about used to be a traditional Korean wrestler. There's a nother, super-skinny nerdy, glass weaying guy ... MC Yu, methinks. Funny guy.

The one I always see in called X-Men. It's on Sundays at around 6:00 on either SBS or KBS. Not really a dating one like the one you mentioned. but a bunch of bad singers making arses out of thenselves.
Yeah it's juvenile, but hell, sometimes juvenile is funny.

I like the game shows. We're so cynical and hate filled and our TV shows it. We're not happy unless someone is being voted off, fired, beaten up or outed.
I sometimes like to watch Korean shows where everybody's laughing and getting water dumped on them. Reminds me of "You can't do that on television".
Of couse the counterpoint is the ballad videos here which invariably show young lovers being shredded into bloody bulgogi in a horrific accident or gang-beating.

'Funny' is a word that can have many meanings. They all apply to the obvious homoerotic references in Guys and Girls that Koreans just wouldn't understand.

Ya agraham, that's a good point about American reality or game shows being centered around firing/voting off.

I like how the majority of my kids don't get embarrassed easily. Random stuff that happens to them in class that would bother the majority of kids around me when I was young... Like the people in the Korean game shows, they're just having fun not worried about being cool as much.
