|
|
I have searched and seen many posts that discuss ways in which you can receive your pension but nothing that clearly states how if I am not going back to Canada.
Does anyone know if I can get the refund at the airport for sure, or if I can get it wired to a bank account by filling out some forms? I will be heading back to work in Phuket from here and have been paying pension for over a year.
Thanks |

I believe the only stipulation is that you have to leave Korea, and you at least have to say that you don't plan to return. You should be able to get it wired into whatever bank account you want. That's how it is normally done.
Whether you're going back to your home country or not, I've never heard of anyone getting a pension refund at the airport. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it has always been my understanding that it takes a few months after you leave Korea to get your pension refunded. I don't even think there is a pension office at the airport. |

| You have to go to the pension office in your area with a plane ticket in hand.....not necessarily to your home country, but out of Korea. |

| as far as documentation goes. Do you just need a canadian/american passport or do you need a tax number? |

For Canadians:
Documentation to bring to pension office: passport and/or ARC, valid air ticket out of Korea, bank account info--either one in Korea or home country
They'll either deposit the refund into an account you stipulate, or send you the cheque to an address you provide. |

| That all is reassuring. I do need to verify that the money is going in, but I would hate to have lost it because I wasn't headed back home, thanks. |

| It's a little slower, but the other option is to retire in Korea. |

Well, doesn't it build some sort of interest? I left my pension alone after the end of my last contract. |

| I've left Korea and my concern is how long it will take to see the money. When I got my Japanese refund some years ago, it took 5 months. That's from the efficient Japanese, so I shudder to think how long it'll take for the ROK gov. to send me my cheque! |
