|
|
My concern is that of the layout of laptops in Asia/Europe/etc. versus North American format (where I am from)...
I would like to buy a laptop and hope to keep it upon return home.
Should I worry about these format differences? Should I ship one from home to Korea? Any experiences with this?
I know I kinda kicked myself in the butt not bringing one with me in the first place..... |

I brought mine
I don't know how customs would work if "momma" bought it and shipped it on your behalf...(maybe as educational "work related" material)
If that is possible...(IE: avoiding the duty) I think it is cheaper to but a NA one and in the long run you will likely be happier...
Having said that...if you are here for a long time, not being able to type in Korean can be a pain in the ass...
Hopefully someone more informed can answer your question.... |

If you're gonna do it, make sure you get a cooling pad. Laptopstend not to do well in Korea's very humid summers without one. Keep in mind though, you could build a decent desktop for around 500,000 here. |

I just bought a laptop. It's shipping the fast way. I'll post when it arrives about the tariff hit etc. |

Get your diirector to talk to the customs officials. A teacher at our school ordered a IMAC from Canada. When it arrived they charged him customs. She told them that he would be staying in Korea for a few years and he wasn't just buying it for the cheaper price. I cant remember exactly what she told them (It was almost 2 years ago) but she got my buddy out of the tarrif. |

you can get a cooling pad at e-mart or anyone of those stores. Some stationary stores will carry them too in the bundang area. its about 30,000. |

Thanks for the advice. I'll ask for a waiver. On the KOTRA website, it says:

Tariffs are zero on materials used for educational purposes and on computer software. |

The laptop arrived today without a hitch.
My father opened the box, tested it, addressed it to my school, declared it "used" and shipped it via USPS Global Express. It took four days to get to Korea, sat in customs over the weekend and arrived today -no duty. |
