|
|
After about five months, I've decided that Korea and I just aren't meant for each other. So, I'm ready to give my notice and get out of Dodge.
Does anyone have any knowledge about whether you can get out of the recruiter's fee if you provide a couple possible people to take over your job? My boss is reasonable and we have a good working relationship -- exactly the reason I don't want to do a runner -- so I feel like it's a possibility. On the other hand, if it's something that simply "isn't done", I don't want to waste my time trying to find people whom I wouldn't be ashamed to recommend to my school. |

| talk to efl-law: you'll have to pay back your airfare but it's illegal for them to have you pay back the recruiter's fee. The recruiter is going to have to give his fee back and if your boss wants it from you that just means he's planning on doubling up. |

After 5 months? I don't think so...
(but I think you are right about OP not having to pay the recruiter fee.) |

employees are not responsible for paying back recruiting fees.
the fee is part of an agreement between the recruiter and the school. the time limit on collecting the fee also depends on their agreement.
not your problem, but sometimes employers threaten teachers who quit early, as I_am_wrong mentioned, in order to grab more cash.
to the OP. if you cam hang on until after the 6month mark, you can also avoid paying back your airfare to korea. |

Why should you have to pay back a recruiter fee????
-This is not your responsibilty. I know you feel bad for your employee but paying back the airfare is fair enough and all that is required by shady Korean law.
-By all means find a replacement but if your employer starts turning the screws about the recruiter fee I would tell them to virtually stick it. |

| Is it true that you don't have to pay back airfare after 6 months? Where's the source on that? I can easily hold on for a full year cuz I'm pretty happy but if the six month thing is true then I might move on to greener pastures. |

some contracts specify how airfare is treated regarding early resignation/dismissal.
if it is not addressed in the contract, the rule of thumb has been 6months=1 way airfare.
in my case, the employer refused to accept this point of view. the labor board could do little to convince him. i only won after eventually taking him to court.
here is what EFL-LAW says...
