Good luck. The main hiring period is in October or November to begin the next year in March. You might find something, but next time start earlier. |

Good luck Tiger Beer. You've been in Korea for a while, paid your dues, you deserve to get the position. I hope you gave a good interview. |

Tiger,
I noticed from one of your recent posts that you went back to Michigan - Where are you now?
You might want to check out Taiwan and Japan while your at it.
But the hiring seasons have also passed for these two countries as well.
Having said that, there are people who surprisingly reject the job offers for whatever reason and don't come. Also, some cancel at the very last minute, leaving schools scrambling for a teacher.
As per the old saying, "timing is everthing."
If Spring semester doesn't pan out, definitely start talking to schools before summer about possible openings for September.
For some reason, though, Taiwanese and Japanese universities do not advertise on Dave's ESL job board. |

I'm back in Michigan. Nevada next week.
I haven't quite yet received the MA yet.. still writing the thesis which needs to be approved and accepted beforehand. Which probably rules me out for Taiwan at this time. I wouldn't mind Japan though!
I've located about 10 Korean universities which are actively hiring now. I'm also willing to fly to Korea for interviews if necessary. Plus, as you say, people cancel at the last minute. I've known quite a few other friends who've picked one up just timing-wise.
I don't mind trying |

If you think you are serious about getting a position at a Taiwanese university, let me know and I'll check around for you.
I know of one school that might be possibly looking for teachers in for February but you'll have to have your M.A. in hand to show the MOE.
If you won't have your M.A. by February, then you might want to widen your net by applying for the positions that come up in September here at universities in Taipei and around Taiwan. Lots of opportunities here.
If I hear of anything solid and you have your M.A., I'll definitely let you know.
When do you figure you'll have your M.A.? |

Unfortunately I don't think I'll have the MA by February. Best-case scenario is I have it completely written and ready to hand-in at the end of this month (January). But I have a bad feeling its going to bounce back and forth between the Acadamic Advisor and myself.. and then goes to another panel afterwards before finally being approved. (In other hands, I won't have any control over the time involved).
It strikes me more as March by the earliest.. possibly even April unfortunately - looking at it realistically.
Thanks for looking out for me TECO. |

Yeah, count me in on the deal!!! I can come to Seoul March 9th.
How do I get a university job- or any job at all with an employer that doesn't go out of his way to screw the employees?? I want that!
Do people really reply to the posts on Dave's and get decent jobs? It seems like most of the posts are small private hogwans that many seasoned teachers say should be avoided. I have a BA in history. Does that put me out of the running for university jobs? Please, do tell!

Not Hilo, Kailua-Kona. Have you been to Hilo? I've been in Kona for a year +. I love it, but I need some Korea I think.

I've never been to Hawaii.. been to 48 other states.. and lived in at least a half dozen. Hawaii seems like its on the future list though.
Honolulu & Hilo seem most interesting by far when I've examined them all. (Hilo - I like rain). |
