Good subject title right? Today at the end of my classes, the director asks me to talk. He says that he thinks there's so problems with my classes which is obvious because so kids have dropped out and I've been getting very frustrated with them. He says that because I have tattoos (I have a lot but I wear a dress shirt and pants to work though sometimes my chest tattoo peaks out) the kids are scared of me when if I get mad at them because only gangsters have tattoos in Korea. He then said I'm being "switched" to somewhere in Seoul or something, meaning I'm fired and the recruiters found me a job in Seoul, I guess?
Anyways I'm a little shell shocked even though I knew classes weren't going great. I guess I'm going to either have to make sure to button the top botton of my shirts. |

| Your visa can't be transferred. You must be released from your contract and make a visa run to work somewhere else. |

That's what I thought too, but some posters have said that this is possible -- to have your visa transferred as long as you still have some time left on it and both employers agree to cooperate to get it done. Some people here have claimed to have done this. I can't remember where the thread was, though. |

You can add a second employer to an E2.
Since it sounds like there is a back story going on it is likely quite easy for them.... |

I know that you can get a secondary working permit, but the key point being secondary work permit.
Best to check with the Immigration office.
Personally, I would never do this... the 2nd hagwon will likely screw you out of severence since you worked for them only for 10 months instead of the required 12. |

I came here October 16th.
I'm a little calmer so I think I'll expand on what was going on at the academy. I'm the first foreign teacher they've ever had and it's a small school. It was a fairly typical (I guess from reading these boards) getting thrown into a classroom without any training or guidance deal. I definitely was too nice at first and the kids got out of control after a while. In some of my classes the kids are very rude and I have yelled at them and in most classes the kids don't want to learn English.
Anyways, blah blah blah. I'm sure not many people want to hear the sob story. I called the director and told him I was shocked when he fired me so I didn't really get all the details and he's coming over tomorrow morning to explain it better. I'm sad to be leaving because he is actually a nice guy and his wife is very nice and they'll be a lot of kids I miss but if this Seoul thing actually works out it'll be for the best because my work situation sort of sucked and Jinhae has sort of isolated me. Besides the fact I think I've learned a lot about being an esl hagwon teacher in Korea and I can start off fresh with new students.

Thanks for the info. That sounds like what's happening but I'm going to make sure everything is kosher. |

I checked on the secondary permit thing.
I know for a fact that you can't work 2 hagwons at once. They will let you do a camp if you are on vacation at the other hagwon. Oddly, they will allow a University and sometimes a Public school teacher to work at a hagwon for extra hours. They won't, however, let a hagwon person on a hagwon E-2 go work for a University at the same time.
Best to check with immigration, but I imaging they can transfer your E-2 somehow, and I can almost guarentee that you MUST have it noted on the back of your alien registration card. That means you'll have to take your alien card, passport, and probably yourself there to fill out forms.
I've been busted by immigration before, and also obtained a permit to do a camp. Trust me -- learned from the school of hard knocks... if you don't have it noted on the back of your ARC, then you are up a creek if the immigration boys drop in. |

Yeah, it's weird.
I think what you might have heard of is the same company hagwon by the same owner -- that kind of deal. I think I've heard of that, but not sure about it being true.
I know all of this other stuff because I had quite a discussion with a lady at the immigration window, as well as her supervisor. I was trying to get a 2nd place added, and they wouldn't because I worked at a hagwon.
Shame, I just threw out the paper I had kept from that. |

What's with all this "E-2" and "permits" and "second jobs" and "what the lady at immigration said or maybe she didn't" crap?
Hell, the damn thread title says it all!! This is about the Tattoo Man! He's escaped from the circus and now he's in Korea teaching little kids!
Christ, I don't know if they'd allow that in the West even! Maybe times have changed, and maybe they would. But hell's bells, this is Korea here, isn't it?!!
No, Tattoo Man -- You can't teach Korean toddlers any more! Back to your cage under the Big Top!! Back, I say, back!!!

Well, sadly, you didn't accuse anyone of pedophilia, you didn't insult anyone, you unfortunately used proper English, you didn't type in all caps, you used line spacing, and you didn't type in kewl dewd speak.
I'd give this attempt a D-.
Sorry, but I'm sure you'll do much better on your future attempts. |

| OK, getting back to the tatoo issue, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a teacher to cover their tatoos while teaching, especially if they're teaching kids, and especially in a place like Korea where only gangsters have tatoos. However, it's not just a Korean thing. There are a lot of jobs back home that would not let you get away with exposed tatoos. That's why I got mine on my shoulder so I could hide it in almost all situations, and expose it only when I wanted to. |
