Here's the short story: My school is closing due to lack of funds. In December, we were given notice that this may happen at the end of February.
So now they've decided to close in January, a month early. I'm disappointed as my contract was to finish at the end of February anyhow, but I'm still going to receive my full severance pay and flight.
I have my own apartment and lease completely seperate from the school. I've already spoken to my landlord and will receive my key money back at the end of February, when my lease expires and when I was due to move on.
So my question is this: When the school informs immigration that they have closed down, will I be forced to leave the country? All my travel plans (along with fulfilling my lease and getting back my key money) were for the end of February, so I MUST stay until then.
Will I have to go to Japan or elsewhere and come back on a tourist visa for my last month?
I've heard that one can receive an extension if they present their flight ticket at immigration, proving that you're on your way out. However, I've only heard of that getting you an additional week or two, not a month.
Any info anyone can provide who's been in a similar situation would help a lot. Thank you for your time! |

| Why don't you just call or visit immigration and find out the facts? This is a VERY unusual situation and they would be the best at answering your questions. Or...better yet...if you trust your boss, have HIM call! |

This sounds like your best and easiest plan of action. Hey, it's an excuse to take a vacation. It's not so bad. |

I've heard in the past that you can ask immigration for a 1-month extension after your current visa expires to "travel" etc in Korea.
Don't bother with Japan if you can help it...I'm sure you'd rather save your money for your real vacation.
Ajuma has a good suggestion. Give immigration a call.
