[Real Reality]

Three workers were killed and 17 others injured after scaffolding collapsed Monday night at a construction site of a high-rise department store in Puchon, Kyonggi Province. Based on the seriousness of some of the injuries, there is a possibility that the number of fatalities may increase. The accident occurred around 10:30 p.m. when construction workers were changing tiles on the outer wall of the LG Department Store on an 11-storied scaffolding in the city, just west of Seoul.

The collapse appears to have been triggered by careless safety measures. After the tiles were peeled from the building, workers piled them on the scaffolding instead of immediately moving them to the ground... police suspect that the scaffolding could not bear the additional weight of the tiles and gave way. They are also investigating whether the scaffolding was installed properly based on safety regulations.

I would agree whole heartedly with Interested, what safety regulations, I have never seen any enforced here.

A container tank filled with low-pressure hydrogen blew up Thursday at a food manufacturing plant of Samyang Genex in Ulsan, South Kyongsang Province, killing three workers. The police are investigating the exact cause of the accident, suspecting the sparks from the welding work caused the explosion with the remaining hydrogen inside the tank as the employees failed to completely remove the hydrogen before conducting the work.

Saw some road workers burning paint lines off of the roads. They were carting along 4 foot tall gas tanks on wheels hooked to a flame thrower -- just walking around and frying off the paint. Many times, I saw the flames touching the tanks.

Reminded me of a guy back home who had the brilliant idea of welding one of those tanks to his truck. The thing blew, and the entire city heard the explosion. It split the truck into two pieces (frame and all) and they found pieces of him 3 blocks away. Someone's dog came up with a jaw bone.

I fear for my life whenever walking near a construction site, and cross the road if I can.

As if those flimsy protection racks are going to stop a girder.
