I was doing the usual morning job perusal when I came across this SLP ad followed by what looks like a testimonial from a teacher mildly slamming the school.

Teaching at SLP
I was supposed to start in late August, this was postponed to early September, then late September, once again to early October and then finally to mid October. Mind you whose fault it was, my recruiter or SLP, is still unknown. The stress built up during this time and the ƨgoing away parties' repeated themselves countless times. That part could have and in my opinion should have been easier and less stressful. Finally I made it to Korea, which was just under a year ago.
Since then I would love to say that it was heavenly bliss but what I found out was that if it is not in writing then do not count on it. The one realization that has hit me has been that besides being a school, it is also a business. Sometimes business concerns outweighed that of the teachers and the students alike.
A lot has been changing over the past while with new staff which is great to see. Children are being placed into classrooms with others at the same level and when they fall behind, there are now tutorial classes where some teachers provide extra help out of there own time.
There are also many comforts that come with working at SLP. Being confident that your pay will be in your account is definitely one of those comforts. There are many stories where people must wait several days up to weeks for their pay. At other times, some companies outright refuse to pay some of their employees due to financial or other reasons. Unfortunately, SLP is a franchise so they're not all as good as the one I've worked in and because of this I can't speak for them all.
It's been a year ago since I've started and I've learned a lot. I know I want to be a teacher, which is good. I've gained experience, I've traveled within Korea, I've traveled around South East Asia, and I've made many friends. Honestly, I don't know why more people don't do this..
