What is the maximum number of students allowed per classroom in a hagwon in Korea. It is 12, isn't it? Does this apply for ibshi hagwons though? I have 19 in some classes.

According to the law, there is no maximum number of students for a hagwon class size. It depends on the size of the classroom. I know some people that have attended a hagwon with 200 in a classroom.

So does it just depend entirely on how many kids you can physically stuff into a classroom, or is there a certain amount of pyeong per child?

It is how many can fit. Your school should have a number they tell the parents for marketing reasons, though.

Are you fucking serious? Like a piddly hogwan classroom, or a sizable lecture room?

I think there's a minimum class dimension, though. At one time, some inspectors of some sort came to my hakwon and measured all the classrooms. MY won-jong then had to rearrange the walls and do some other stuff (like remove a sink and take out big desks) so her rooms were bigger. We ended up with one less classroom, and a lot less "teacher's space" (I got jammed in the corner with the photocopier..had to stand up if someone wanted to make a copy...but I could swivel my chair and make copies from my desk). The "inspectors" came back a couple weeks later and re-measured to make sure it was up to snuff.

I am sure there would be a maximum amount to comply with firecodes for the size of the school.

Fire Codes?

Ever notice the lack of smoke detectors in this country?

It's all very very precisely laid-out, so people can't just open up an English hagwon in their house. The place has to be a certain size, be in a certain building, etc.

Some guys on here have tried to start a hagwon legally in the past, and had some good posts about this.

I've got between 14-16 in a small cramped room with a table that can only seat 9 stuffed into a room. They are all beginners. Sometimes I think about jumping out the window. Often I pray for death. To be struck down by a bolt of lightning above. But the director just keeps cramming them in.

For an English only hagwon, the maximum number of students per class is 12. It's never been enforced too my knowledge. Also there is a particular dimension that hagwons must have before they can be granted a licence to operate. Ipshis are governed by a different set of regs. Smile
