looks like the stuff!

there are 3 kinds tho,
1. boiled ()
2. fried ()
3. steamed (𸸵)

there are also various stuffings... veggie (ä), or meat ()

if you buy them in the supermarket to cook at home, you should buy the right kind per method of cooking.
IMO the best brand is PULMUONE, as they have avoided the many 'garbage mandu' controversies over the years.
if you want to make the dipping sauce, you will need soy sauce (), vinegar(), and red pepper powder(߰)....mix the soy sauce with a little vinegar and add the pepper to desired level of tongue burn.
top off your mandu with some sesame seeds and you got a great snack.

Excellent. Pulmuone.

... literally water dumplings?

Sounds like a winner. Tempting to try to turn a class into a cooking day if all I have to do is buy some and throw them in a pot to boil! Laughing

Watch Fruit Chan's short Dumplings (from 3 Monster), and you may never have the appetite for them again.

Not the easiest dish to prepare, but not so difficult either. The most difficult part for me was the psychological trauma of willingly ingesting something called "man" "doo".

Quote:
man ( P ) Pronunciation Key (mn)
n. pl. men (mn)
An adult male human.

Quote:
doo-doo ( P ) Pronunciation Key (dd)
n. Slang
Fecal matter or something likened to it.

I believe the dish was invented by the famous Joseon chef Hee Kuk Poo and his well known assistants Lee Ki Bum and Mi Dong Stew

Assuming you dont' choose the method of frying the Mandu in lots of fatty oil, would you consider Mandu to be healthy? Unfortunately I haven't found any Korean food I like besides Dokboki (spelling?), until I tried Mandu last night. Delicious.

Heh. Were you here last summer when it was discovered that one of the nation's largest mandu makers was using rancid ingredients in their product?

When you say rancid do you mean bad or gross pickled radish? When I first read that I thought you meant something else, but I asked one of my students and they told me last year it was a big issue of bad pickled radish. I can handle that, thought it was worse.
