I was planning on buying a desktop PC whilst staying here in Korea and was wondering how i'd go about taking it home to Australia in 10 months home. I don't want to buy a notebook, they're overpriced and with a PC I can at least make adjustments to it.

Has anyone sent a PC home overseas? Is it possible to take the new slimline cases on the plane as hand luggage?

Thanks in advance.

It's very easy to do, but you'd better do some research and see if it's really worth it. What I mean is, evaluate your options closer to your departure date- Just buy what you feel you need now and decide what you're going to do when your return date gets closer- you may find that you're better off selling it, or stripping it and selling parts of it, or whatever, but yes you can take your desktop pc home without much of a hassle, either slim-line or stripped as carry-on, or the entire case as checked-baggage (provided you do some common-sense packing and securing).

Some advice-
Don't settle for slim-case unless you're fairly sure you'll never want to add components to it or upgrade it in the future.

Don't spend a lot of money on a fancy case or the monitor or an expensive printer- chances are fair to good that you won't be bringing those back with you.

Whenever I have travelled with a desktop, I just used the orginal packing and checked it in with my cases. Never had a problem.
