I read an article about it in the Korea Times yesterday indierj, but it made no mention about the employers being prosecuted, is there anything in the Korean news about that?
This is a pretty big news story, and the employers in this case need to be made an example of and have the book thrown at them. |

I totally agree with you. From what I read, they are investigating the case right now. Only god knows when these vicious employers would be prosecuted. |

I read the article in the newspaper. I have not been so mad in a long time. Treatment of DDD workers is a serious problem in Korea and if Korea wishes to enhance it's international reputation, it had better start doing some reevaluation. Those greedy Korean chaebols have blood on their hands as does the government that shovels money at them like a farmer feeding a pig. Rant over |

Arrests made over poisoned Thai workers
Hwaseong Police Precinct said it is questioning two officials of Donghwa Digital, a 47-year-old plant manager and a 35-year-old administrative worker, to find out why they did not inform foreign workers of safety rules and left them exposed to a toxic chemical in closed rooms up to 12 hours a day. Police are also seeking Donghwa's president, who apparently fled in the aftermath of the report.
Ansan Migrant Shelter, a rights group for foreign workers, said three Thai workers returned home one month ago suffering from serious nerve damage. All are paralyzed from the waist down. They were told to leave the country by the company without treatment or monetary compensation.
The shelter brought them back to Korea yesterday for medical treatment.

Thai workers exposed to toxic chemicals at SKorean sweat-shop
"They worked under harsh conditions in closed rooms without windows for up to 14 hours a day without wearing protective gear such as masks, gloves or goggles," said Choi Eun-Mi, representing the women on behalf of the rights group Ansan Migrant Shelter (AMS).
"Doctors say hexane poisoning requires intensive treatment for one year or more," Choi said. She blamed the company for violating rules on toxic chemicals and said her group had asked the government to investigate and punish the company's management.
Many illegal foreign workers are employed at low wages and receive harsh treatment from Korean employees but are unable to complain to the authorities because they fear being expelled from the country. Some 430,000 foreign workers, around half of them illegal, are employed in the so-called three Ds here -- dirty, difficult and dangerous jobs shunned by South Koreans.
