Right now I work in Anyang and my fiance lives and works in Daejon. My fiance and I have decided to just go ahead and get married by City Hall so I can get my F2-visa and not face the threat of being banned of returning to Korea. I love him very much and it would kill me if I possibly quit my job and I can't return to Korea for an XXX amount of months just because of a visa technicality, so that's why I want the F-2 visa now. So here are my exhausitve questions about aquiring an F2 visa. Please help.

1) I hear conflicting reports about a Korean needing to have 30 million won (who the hell has this kind of money, anyway?) in order for their foreign spouse to get an F2? He has a job ( very little money though) and his own apartment, but definitly not 30 million won. Is there any financial support he can show (such as real estate) other than a 30 million won bank account?

2) He lives in Daejon. Do I get my F2 at Daejon immigration? Also becaue we live apart right now, will that be a problem? Do we have to live together at the time we apply for the F2?

3) If I do get my F2 visa, can I only work in the same city where my husband lives? Does he have to change residence and live with me say if I take a future job in Seoul?

4) I have an E2 now, so can I get my F2 visa during my E2 contract? If we get married in Daejon, will Daejon immigration give me work permission to keep my E2 visa in Anyang?

Any info would help...sorry if it's a repeated thread but I feel my situation (not living together but wanting to get married right now) is a little unusual.

Some people need to show it some dont. As long as you have the equivalent of 30 million its fine. It can be cash in the bank, or property.

As far as I know, yeah. My wife had to change residence when I moved to Seoul recently.

Hi there, I just applied for my F2 visa a couple of days ago. I used this post as a guide http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/korea/viewtopic.php?t=4842 ...my husband didn't have to show that he has 30 million won in the bank...he just had to show the work paper proving that he has a job. When you go to the "law" place he must bring his stamp (my husband didn't so he had to go downstairs and have one made)...one more thing, after you get married get him to ask how long it will take to have you added to his family registry....it took about20+ days for me to be added, although others have said they were added right away. If your husband is NOT the oldest boy then he will need a copy of his own family registry, he gets his won when you get married..Smile I think that is all I can think of besides that post i refered too....we just went to the visa office and gave them everything on that list and we were finished in about 10-15 minutes. I pick my visa up on January 20...and so far I've only paid 50,000 won, so maybe the other 30,000 I have to pay when I pick it up. Good luck....and congrats!!!..Very HappyVery Happy

We are in Suwon by the way....I'm not sure if each province is different.

I just renewed my F2 for the second time last week.
my korean wife did not need to prove her bank's balance or job status when i first got the F2 in Seoul two years ago. The procedure was simple and fast. We 're using her mother's resident address for all the registrations, including the family tree and local Gu office registrations.

Last week at the immigration office, the officer double checked to make sure that the addresses printed on both the Family Tree and my ARC are tally. Otherwise, some explanations are needed.

on seperate notes, bring along your spouse in order to negotiate a longer F2 extention period. Standard is 1 year and you can be granted longer period upon "negotiation".

easy to get,

sometimes they might be a bit anal about your adresses, if they dont all match, they might also ask for evidence fo where you live etc, I had this problem, just make sure all your adresses are the same, you can change all of them at a gu or dong office,

never been asked for evidence of the 30 mil myself, have heard of it, but basically it is a no big deal and just an excuse for them to keep some dodgy forigners that they dont like out of the country. if you have a job, and e2 and f2 at same time it is no problem as you have income and they know you wont be workign privates basically.

you can come in to korea on a tourist visa and change to a f2 no trouble anytime, or i guess you could get an f2 from overseas but this could be a bit of a hassel mabee.

Thanks for the replies....
I can easily imagine how discriminating immigration may be....if they don't like the looks of you, they would probably ask for the 30 million won...I guess just smile, smile, smile? Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
Now what if your fiance makes a really, really low income (my honey tops 700,000 won a month)? Is that going to be a problem...plus he works one of those food vendors, so maybe they'll discrimminate the type of job he does?
I can't find any decent job positions, or any positions at all in Daejon, and my guy can't afford to change residence and is not employable in any other city (he works only with his family and makes money "under the table"..he doesn't even have work documentatio)...I guess I'm limited to Daejon then? I might not even qualify for an F2...this blows Crying or Very sad Well, we're still getting married anyway.....I guess the last hope is bringing him home with me. It sucks to know though that I'll have a Korean husband and I can still be separated from him because I'll probably always be a slave to the E2 if I don't get the F2.
