It's freezing but there is no snow. I like snow, but have only experienced it twice in the last 10 years. I feel I have been cheated. If it's cold it should snow that has what the movies have taught me.
Where's the snow?

Korea is very dry in the winter. You need some moisture in the air for snow. Last two winters here I can only remember a couple of days of snow in January. When it does snow however, it hangs around for ages because there's usually no rain to wash it away. |

Eamos reply makes sense. i was asking the same question today. I was up at Haeinsa temple (just on the Kyoungnam-do border) today and the temp was definately well below freezing. |

bah! I hate this dry thing. I want snow,
Oh the weather outside is frightful
But the undol is so delightful
And since we've no place to go
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
The cold wind shows no signs of stopping
And adjuma's yelling ain't stopping
My tolerance is way down low
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
When I finally say goodnight
How I'll hate going out in the storm!
But if I bundle up real tight
All the way home I'll be warm
The undol is slowly dying
And, korea, ain't goodbying
So since I got no place to go
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! |

I often think...how frigging cold is it. Where is the the snow.
I've lived in Changwon for 2 years. i remember last Jan it snowed(for a tropical aussie boy it was great) but what was strange was it was nowhere near as cold as the previous 2 days. It was just cold enough for the moisture to become snow.
Remember the really cold days are the clear days so of course there will be no precipitation so no snow. |

Oh, it does snow here, and it will. January and February are the coldest months here, and when the inital delight wears off, you will soon grow tired of icy, uncleared streets and sidewalks, and dirty snowbanks piled up in those places where snow-clearing actually takes place. Enjoy the first pristine snowfall of the season. It can be magical. After that, it gets old rather quickly. |

If you really want to see snow, go to a ski resort. Even if it hasn't snowed yet, there will be machine snow. |

maybe tis will cheer yu up - a song from flanders and swann about the miserable weather of england....
A Song of the Weather
January brings the snow,
Makes your feet and fingers glow.
February's ice and sleet,
Freeze the toes right off your feet.
Welcome, March, with wint'ry wind,
Would thou weren't not so unkind.
April brings the sweet spring showers,
On and on for hours and hours.
Farmers fear unkindly May,
Frost by night and hail by day.
June just rains and never stops,
Thirty days and spoils the crops.
In July the sun is hot,
Is it shining? No it's not!
August, cold and dank and wet,
Brings more rain than any yet.
Bleak September's mist and mud,
Is enough to chill the blood.
Then October adds a gale,
Wind and slush and rain and hail.
Dark November brings the fog,
Should not do it to a dog.
Freezing wet December, then...
Bloody January again!
(January brings the snow),
(Makes your feet and fingers glow!) |

IT'S SNOWING!!!!! AS OF 4AM THIS MORNING! WOOHOO!!
We already have about 2" of crisp white snow out in Anseong City. Now, the real question is, how the heck am I going to manage to get down that very steep, and very slippery (half a mile long) mountain road from my classes every night without falling over and breaking my neck??? |

i saw snow on the mountains on the train trip back here to gwangju yesterday. Also folks here said it snowed for about 2 hours yesterday morning.
last year around new years we got 8" of what I call "lake effect snow" (those of you who have lived around the Great Lakes know about this one) the wind sets up where it goes over the warmer waters of the west sea and picks up moisture then when it hits the colder land dumps the moisture as snow. I was in Seoul that day and it was sunny but as I came SW from there on the train the snow increased and by the time I got to the train station here its was a full blown snowstorm, in fact almost had to stay in a motel near the train station as the taxis could barely get up the hill to my univ.
BTW I'll take cold and dry over snow. I grew up in it and HATE it now |

If you want snow, goto Canada.
I love Korea for the fact snow RARELY falls in the Seoul area.
About 3 years ago there was a HUGE snow storm around the Seoul area...over a foot of snow in an afternoon. Well it pretty much killed traffic around the city.
My wife told me that it was a rare thing and a record snowfall in about 50yrs. Lucky me to be driving back then |

It's snowing in Incheon right now.
I'm excited, but only because it looks christmassy.
