Hello,
I have a class of 15 elementary school boys and we need to do a group performance at the end of the camp. Does anyone have any good ideas that would allow each student to speak for at least a minute or two? We were going to do a play, but apparently it is too easy and the parents are expecting more...........
Thanks!

Plays are easy, huh? Damn parents. Have them do some Shakespeare - see how easy that is. And make 'em practice 'til they get it RIGHT, Damn It! And if they pull that minor miracle off then good. Make 'em all do a simultaneous rendition of Samuel Beckett's 'Not I'. At full pace! If any of them fall out of sync during rehearsal... "START AGAIN!!!!"

There are a lot of plays available with the ladybird series of books. Stuff like the little "Ginger Bread Man", "Snow White" and so on. Those aren't exactly easy for elementry students. Try them. If your students are any good then they can improvise and add their own lines.

Or failing that try and get them to give ideas of a play that they would like to make of their own. Ask them all what they would say line by line and then write it down on the board and on paper for yourself. Saw this done recently by 6th grade elementry school students, and they came up with some outstanding stuff.

An English play telling the story of a korean folk tale could be really popular with both students and their parents alike...

I had kindy kids & they did "Why the elephant has a long nose" and another one about a monkey who is crowned king and then treats everyone so badly that all the animals revolt. Mind you, the Korean teachers were doing all the direction - I was just helping them out with the pronunciation and the songs.

Add a few sfx, music and a couple of songs and voila! Instant success Very Happy
