|
|
Greetings! My first post here, but have been reading in the background for a little while. I feel like I know you all so well . Anyways my question concerns the burg o' Bundang and how much it costs to live there compared to other areas in and around Seoul.
I've been offered a salary of 2.1m won and this is a little more than offers I 've had outside of Bundang. Would offering a higher salary like this be a way of compensating for a higher cost of living? As this is the only offer I have had in Bundang I have no basis of comparison.

Take it. Hagwons in B-dang, like everywhere else, tend to offer 1.9/2.0 for new teachers.
However, do your best to make sure the school is legit and won't have any financial problems down the road.

There's no significant difference in the cost of living in Bundang. |

Where is the school? What is the name?
There are a few schools in Bundang to avoid, and it's wise to ask about them on here and see what people say. I don't know anything personally, but I know that some have posted to avoid KISS or King's English or something like that.
The only extra expense you might have with living here is a bit of added transportation costs if you want to go to Seoul a lot. Not a whole lot to steer u away from a job, though. Also, there aren't as many "cheap" Korean restaurants to eat at, like you'd find near a University, but there isn't that much difference with the restaurant prices unless you eat at a foreign chain place. Those can be expensive anywhere.
Bundang is a nice place to live, but boring if you're a single young person. Lots of beautiful paths and some nice parks to walk in or ride bikes during the summer.
Oh, if you live in the Jeonja area, make sure your apartment has a good lock. Last summer/fall, lots of teachers had their places broken into because a certain apartment complex had really cheap locks. Turned out someone was sticking putty in the lock hold and making key copies! Rumors are that foriegners were being targeted specifically. It scared me into buying an extra lock for my place, even though my building has security. |

Thanks for the replies people. The school that I'm in contact with right now is CIE in Migeum. Has anyone dealt with this school? |

Thanks for the thread. I wasn't put off by the thread at all. Compared to some of the other "Hagwon Horror Stories" I've read here the theft of intellectual property seems like pretty small potatoes. Plus, I think they'd just be screwing themselves if they wanted to steal any intellectual property o' mine.
Thanks for the help. |

I know a handful of the CIE Migeum teachers as well. Average school. Typical problems. The only thing that would really bother me about working there would be the weekend "outing" events that are held occasionally.
But they do have two "campuses" right next to each other in Migeum. Is it the middle school or elementary campus? |

Isn't there a CIE school near Sunae 3-dong, too?

There's at least 5 campuses, or something. |

Five different 'schools' in 3 locations. Migeum station, Sunae 2 dong and Sunae 3 dong. |
