I was just wondering how common it is for former students to email you. When I left, several of my kindergarten kids asked for a phone number. I was headed back home for awhile and gave them an email address instead.
Today I recieved an email from one of them. It just about made me cry. Anyway, here it is:
Dear. David teacher I am Annie. How are you? Were you happy today? I was happy. Thank you,you teached for me. I missing you. When will you come back? I love you. I want to see you. Please come back Korea. |

Nice.
I've given out my email address to hundreds of kids of all ages (basically any who asked for it) knowing that very few would have the gumption to write. The handful who do though are great, letting me know from time to time what goes on in their lives. |

its been nearly a year since i last taught at a children's hagwon in ansan and yet just recently i had a phone call from the korean teacher there... she said that the kids wanted to talk to me. one by one i spoke to about 20 kids - all of them around 7 y.o. - early elementary kids. it was great fun and really touched my heart. |

When I left Korea the first time I had about a dozen students e-mail. I tappered off after six month. The children had lost theur attention span and only one adult student cooresponded. He still writes once in a blue moon.
There are maybe 10 student from Thailand that keep in touch with me by e-mail. Mostly, it is small paragraphs and simple greetings. However, I helped a few of them score jobs in the United States. I still hope that one day soon I will surprise them by returning to Thailand for their graduation ceremony. |

Must be a generic response...
"Thank you teaching me" "You are best teacher" I miss you" |

On a different note... I required my university students to keep daily journals/diaries in English that can be handed in at the end of the semester for bonus marks. I was going over one of my 1st year journals and found something along these lines, "My friend and I really think you are handsome. When the sun shines on your head you look really hot (I shave my head by the way), so my friend and I call you SG for Sun God. My other friends never know who I am talking about when I say SG." I thought that was cute and a nice change from being told that I looked like an actor. |
