I've had my laptop for over three years. It's not bad - 512 mb of RAM, 1.2 Ghz processor, etc...but lately it seems to be running less smoothly, and it heats up a lot quicker, and I'm thinking it might be time for a newer one.

However I've tweaked this one and have all of the programs on it exactly the way I want it - if I were to get a new one, could I transfer everything that I have on this one to my new one, and keep the same settings for windows and everything else, so that I won't need to go back and tweak everything again?

thanks...

All you need to do is use the "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" which can be found in the 'accessories' folder in your start menu.

Time to clean the fan, and reinstall windows.

You can always get a new one if you like, though. Laptops seem to have a good resale value.
