Last week at a train station I saw a dark-skinned fellow sitting with a bunch of drunken homeless Korean ajjoshis. He was acting like their gopher and masseuse. It was quiet an interesting scene.

It Itaewon last month, I witnessed a westerner (sounded actually North American) who sat outside the Denmark hot dog joint panhandling in a drunken stupor. And the guy reeked!

So I'm just wondering if others have noticed homeless or derelect foreigners living on the streets of Korea.

Homeless and derelict foregners in Korea?Of course. There are homeless and derelict foreigners in almost all countries,if not all of them.Probably less in Korea than in some other countries, but of course I cannot state that for a certainty.Very sadly, homelessness is almost a worldwide problem. So much for all of the so called "governments" around the world, who are ostensibly (at least) supposed to be "helping" people!Although, there are many reasons for homelessness.

Yeah, they're the ones who didn't get back to airport in time after their visa run. That, or they tried to change their won after arriving.

I've passed out at the entrance of the subway.
Had my wallet lifted when I woke up also.

Seen guys sleep it off on the street when they've missed their train.

This was in Tokyo, though.

In Seould, taxis are affordable.

Me and my mate discussed the pros and cons of living as soju bums for a week out back of Yeungdongpo station. May have been a laugh.

Cheers]

So what you're saying is, I'm the only one left who really ought to be trusted on the subject anymore? Me and Sparklers, I guess. (And what's up with the location? Still lying low till the threat of the smackdown blows over?)

Actually, I don't know anyone here. But is that true about the poster Mody Ba? Dead??? Gosh, and his/her posts are still here in the archives. Kinda morbid and yet touching. Takes stuff like that to remind me that all of you just might not be fig newtons of my imagination after all. (where's the smiley for "contemplation"?)

What happened to Mody Ba?

I checked his user name and his last post was August 18, 2003.

He was a feisty character, if I remember right.

I have not yet seen any homeless foreigners in Korea. But I have known of one or two (westerners... EFL teachers) elsewhere. And I have been close before. Fortunately it didn't get to that point.

I remember a notice from someone that he passed away. I forget his user name on the other Daves International Forum, but he was a very big poster on it. I believe he passed away in his sleep at late 50s or 60+ years of age. Anyone know the exact facts on that? Thats roughly what I remember.
