Someone really needs to write a definitive answer to this question. This question gets asked A LOT!!

How to link a pic from another website.

How to upload a pic from your PC to a web-host and then link to Dave's.

I do know but I don't have time today and I also think certain others could write it more clearly than me.

I'm not sure I'm the man for the job, but I will try anyhow...I'm certain that this is "longhand"...perhaps others use various shortcuts and time-saving implementations of varying kinds and would be good enough to post them.

Ok...

First, to link to an image, not "host" it yourself.

Right click on the picture you want to link to and select "properties"

Look at the "location" area. Highlight that, "select" it by left clicking and dragging the mouse the length of the URL, or address.

Then right click again. Select "copy" this time.

Next, in the post at Dave's or whichever HTML-enabled board you wish to have the image appear, right click and select "paste". After this you have 2 options:

1. Highlight the link and select the "IMG" tab at the top of the post box to attatch the correct HTML tags to display the image automatically, or 2. type them yourself.

For example:

I want to post the "yahoo" logo from yahoo.com.

Go to the site. Right click on the logo at the top. Look at the "location" and then left click and drag the mouse along the entire address, or line of text so it is "selected" or "highlighted"..

Right click on the selected text and select "copy"

Come here or where you want to post the image, and right click in the post box. Select "paste"

http://us.a1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/ww/beta/y3.gif

I went to Yahoo, right clicked the logo, found "location", left clicked at the beginning of that line of text and dragged the mouse along it (continuously depressing the left mouse button) and thus "selected" it.

I right clicked on the selected text and right clicked, choosing "copy" I then came to this window at Dave's and right clicked in the post window, slecting "paste". The result is only a link to the image, not the image itself. To display the image, we need the correct tags to tell the board to show the image, not just the link.

How to do that:

Now, highlight the above link (by left clicking and dragging the mouse again, as per above), and click the "IMG" button on top, to give it the correct parameters in HTML to display the actual image, not just the link, The parameters are:

So now to show the Yahoo logo:

It's the same as the link above, but with immediately after the link. This will make the image show, not the link.

Now, this will increase the number of "hits" that image gets in accordance with how many times this page is viewed. In the case of Yahoo, they won't notice a few extra hits, but smaller sites will notice, and if you are using an image from their site regularly, you may get some slack for it. I think I am in the wrong to use Yahoo's logo as an example, but... oh well.

If you want to use an image regularly, say for an avatar, you will have to host the image. This means that the image is in your own internet space, and you won't be putting any hits on anyone but your own hosting service. Also, be sure the service allows avatar hosting...many don't. Also, be sure the image you use isn't copywritten or protected somehow.

So, you will have to find a free image host on the net. I use photobucket, but now they are pay, so you will have to look elsewhere for a free service. Others will post some free hosting sites I'm sure. One can also host it themselves if they have a server, but then, they probably know how to link to an image if they are savvy enough to have their own server.

If you have a host site, right click on the image you want to post and select "save image as" or somesuch similar dialogue, browser dependant.

Save the image to a location on your hard drive, say "My Documents". You may want to make a new folder in "My Documents" called "uploads" or something, so you know what you have on the host site, and a backup copy of the cool image if something happens.

Then, go to your image hosting site, and "upload" the image to their storage devices. They will have a button for uploading just as one would for an e-mail attatchment. (If you don't know how to send an e-mail attatchment, then just skip this whole thing)

After clicking the button that will allow you to search your computer for the file to upload,, find the file you want to upload, then wait for it to be sent from your machine to theirs by simply following the on screen instructions.

After it's on their system (uploaded), you can link to it using the same method as above. Get the location of the image (most hosting sites provide this below the image), post it here with the correct [img] [/img] HTML tags, and that's it.[/img]

Dunno....hope it clear, hope it helps. Question
