The site is in Korean but there is a federation that lists gyms where you can train:

The Gangnam studio is called Hwarang Gym and the number is 02-2226-9557. It's in Irwon-dong. |

Look, I am not saying that kick boxing and Muay Thai aren't great... but you are in Korea. When I went to China, I could have practiced with an 8th Dan Korean Taekwondo guy (he was even from Daegu! my second hometown) but... I was in China, so I opted for studying Wushu. You are in Korea. Hapkido has lots of the things that Muay Thai does, and the kind of people who like Muay Thai really enjoy Hapkido, too (providing it's Daehan, actually, because some Hapkido gets into forms and stuff... not that Hapkido which is a newer phenomenon, but the more traditional 1953 version...). Anyway, you could even do Taekwondo, though I am not a fan, or Taekkyon, though it's not very likely to be the same thing you are looking for, cause it's very graceful and fluid without the harsh striking blows... you could even do Gumdo. It's up to you, of course, but, really... when in Korea... |

If you go to the Seoul Dae Ib Gu subway exit and come out umm..... I forget which exit. But, there's a Muay Thai gym across from the Outback Steakhouse. The guy there trained in Thailand for years, and the gym is open all hours every day. 80,000 a month + registration fees etc. As for Hapkido, I just started here in Bucheon and it's a blast. Each night the focus is on something different. Combination attacks, wristlocks, balance conditioning, anti-Japan lectures, it's great conditioning and the weapons forms are pretty amazing as well. If you can't find Muay Thai, I'd recommend Hapkido. Good luck. |
