I got Madden 2005 for the laptop.
I got a Mad Catz controller that looks like it's been installed properly.
Yet, the game gives me no game controller option. Just mouse and keyboard.
I can't play a football game without a controller.
Does anybody know what the problem is here? |

What does "looks like it's been installed properly" mean?
Did you look in the control panel at "Game Contorllers"? Is it listed there? Is there a software packgage for it or just drivers? Is it listed in the "System", "Device Hardware" area in the control panel? If it is, when you double click it to bring up the properties, does it say it's all working well? Is it USB? |

Demophobe, thanks for your reply.
Yes, it's in Game Controllers. What I meant by working properly is when you go to Properties and do the Test, everything does what it should.
However, I don't see it listed in the Device Hardware in Control Panel.
How do I get it listed? The controller didn't come with a CD, with something to install, it was just a controller. Do you have any idea what the next step is? What's USB? |

Wait a minute.
In Device Manager, Human Interface Devices, I see HID Compliant Game Controller.
It says the device is working properly.
I don't understand it, Demophobe. |

Okay, there's more.
When I plug in the game controller, it says, Power surge in hub port. A USB device has exceeded the power limits of the hub port.
I don't understand this either.
It never did that when I first got the controller. All of a sudden, it's got too much juice?
This whole Madden game has been a tease so far. |

Ok...where does the controller plug into the PC? Is it through the soundcard or a USB plug? The USB plug is a rectangular, narrow plug on the back of the PC. The Soundacrd plug would be on the same card as you plug your speakers in.
If it's through the soundcard, you may need new drivers to support the controller. If it's via USB, you may need to simply re-install the drivers.
http://www.madcatz.com/MadCatz/product_drivers.jsp
Please note that nowhere does it say that the products are supported under WinXP.
This is the page for their drivers. Check this for your controller.
Another page with some softwre for Mad Catz stuff:
http://www.driversplanet.com/inputDevices.aspx?action=model&mfg=340
Could you post the exact name of the controller as well as any system specs you know? Specifically the soundcard.
If it's not showing up in the device manger, then it's no really installed.
What version of DirectX are you on? You can download the latest version of that...you may need to, and it can't hurt anything.

Post back with the controller name, ok? |

Ok....it's USB then, and it doesn't have too much juice, it's drawing too much.
Where did you get this controller? Was it new? |

I checked their page a little more carefully....they only make one controller for the PC and the re is no documentation for the product on their site! Ugh...great support.
No CD with the controller? Well....I did a bunch of Google-ing and no much out there...this is not a popular product for the PC. Also, it seems that it's old....quite old and no attention has been paid to it since before the release of WinXP.
Bottom line is that I believe there are no drivers for it.

Well I guess that's that.
I just bought the thing no less than one month ago. Unbelievable.
Copyright 2004.
I saw on the website too, there was no support. And there was only 1 for the computer.
I think your explanation is right. My mouse didn't come with any CD either. I just plugged it in and it worked. Works in Madden too.
So in terms I can understand, this game controller doesn't work with Windows XP?
And thanks again for taking ttime out of your day to help. |

Yeah....kind of sad, huh? The only recourse is to fire off an e-mail to their site and ask them how to do this. Really, it's worth a shot.
Otherwise, get a popular controller. I'm not up with that tech, but I'm sure that MS makes something that will be simple to use.
Of course, if I were you, I would still keep trying for a bit. Never give up until it's fairly obvious the fat lady is singing.
Good luck... |
