good gawd, i'm going to go crazy. when i was a little girl, if we even attempted to chew with our mouths open my father would press our lips together (gently, not abusively). i guess it's social conditioning, but when people smack their lips when eating or chewing gum, it drives me CRAZY. like when i'm sitting on the metro and the person next to me smacks their gum *smack smack smack smack smack* the whole way i just want to press their lips together and say "stop it. you're grossing me out". anyway, just a rant, but can anyone tell me why it's ok to smack and chew like cows? |

When middle aged women chew gum, snapping it with thier mouths open, I find that most repulsive. In fact, adults chewing gum in general is disgusting and plain wrong. |

especially since gum here tastes like yuck, some of the flavours are wacko.
the snapping is the worst. i was on the bus last week and i could here the driver all the way at the back. there were only two or three other people on the bus, but man was it annoying. |

I always wonder if this gum chewing is some kind of sexual sublimation. |

Yes, that sound is horrid. But then again Koreans also play games so loud, on hand phones and in the PC room. They just dont care how the noise bothers other people. Then again, people pick their noses, pee, and spit where ever they want also. Lets see, that bothers me the most is....hummm.........all of them. |

At my school I was told by one of the teachers that I should "make more noise when I eat so people will know you are enjoying your food"...... |

Has anyone ever tried asking a Korean friend if they could not do this, or would that be seen as really bad form? I sit across from a KT who's a really, really nice person, but once her chopsticks dig into that little yellow tupperware container... smack ... smack ... smack ... smack ... all right, I'm off for a coffee or cigarette. |

So long as you don't blow your nose in public. The noise irritates people. |
