Actually, 3.3 meters squared would be 9.9 square meters.

1 pyeong = 3.3058 square meters

Pyung is that special bond between old friends. But only Koreans can understand it.

...also, when your apartment/housing says "X amount" of pyoung a portion of that space also includes the elevator and outside hallway. Believe that? Just found out a few days ago. So; 30 pyoung may in fact be 27 (or so), of actual living space. Every tenant's use of elevator and hallway space is included with/deducted from their living space. Shocked

The above is just about right.

The first 3 or 5 pyung are lost on common areas such as stairs, elevators and parking area.

Our new apt is 37 pyung but it's really the same size as a normal 33 pyung apt and that's because all of our parking is underground, which is covered with a park-like area.

If you are offered a job with a one-room (studio) I think you should make sure that it has more than 10 pyung. I think 13 to 16 pyung is just about right, though many at 11 to 13 pyung have enough space.

Thanks for all the good advice, folks.

Looking on some other threads it looks like I mispelled it somehow. I guess with the conflicting multiple romanization of Korean schemes, who would notice anyway?

Cheers.
