Well, you are probably going to want to hang out on the east side of downtown where the main collection of western bars are. To get there by taxi, say 'samdeok so-bahng-so' and they will drop you off at Samdeok Fire Station, which is a block away from that area.

If you are facing the doors of the fire station, go left, and you will see a road going right, towards downtown. Follow that road, and after 100 feet or so, look to the right and you will see a bakery and next to it are stairs going down to Commune/Lonely Heart's Club. That's more of a laidback, lounging type of place, where a lot of teachers congregate.

If that's not your style, then keeping walking, and take the next left. You'll now be on a narrower street with clothing shops lining the sides. If you walk for a few minutes, start looking to the left, and you'll see Bubble Bar with stairs going down. That's one dance bar.

From there, you can also go back onto the street and keep walking along that street. Go left at the next street (not the small one after Bubble, that's a dead-end), and walk for a few minutes. On the left you'll see Gypsy Rock, another dance bar. But there's usually a cover.

If you want to try something else after that, go back out and walk back towards Bubble, but keep going straight. And straight across the street that you found Commune on. You'll eventually come to a point where you can make a left onto a street, or keep walking straight. Straight and on the left-hand side, you will see Rock and Roll, another laidback foreigner place. But if you were to go left instead, walk for a few minutes, you will see stairs on the left hand side going down to Ping. Another dance bar, in the Bubble-mold, but usually has less foreigners.

As for places to stay, there are less yeogwans in the heart of downtown, than there are on the backstreets that surround it. There are one or two along the sidestreets that branches off of the main street that Commune is on, if you were to walk closer to the heart of downtown. Ranging around 25000Won. But, for more selection, if you were to follow that road for 5-10 minutes and walk straight through downtown and across the main road that borders the west edge of downtown, which has Academy Theater, Outback, etc...you will find a lot more yeogwons to choose from, in the backstreets.

PING is now closed.
there is a new club called THE BOX, next to BUBBLE BAR.
i suggest `choosing between Commune Pub for chit chat, or Bubble Bar if you wanna get jiggy.

...with piss poor sound, cheesy old hip hop, no sound mixing, and a 4 hour music cycle. i'd add that the owner dilutes the alcohol...but you may think i'm holding a grudge. it's true, tho...and the bar staff will take away your drink if it sits unattended too long on the bar.
cover is 10,000 on weekends.
the korean uni students think it's the hottest gig in town, tho.

I don't know how that dilution rumor got started. I've heard that from a few others, while others say that's a crock. I've never noticed anything about the drinks. Some people said the same thing about Mojo's. Confused

But, anyways, the OP is looking for a dance bar, so they can find it at Gypsy or Bubble.

online map, still in the development phase but it'll give you an idea where commune, bubble etc are, especially if coming from the train station.
