Dear Fellow Canadians:

We are slowing approaching the arrival of Spring. We look forward to seeing the
flowers start to bloom with their symbols of new hopes and dreams.

Last winter was difficult for many around the world. The whole world was shocked
by the Tsunami disaster in South East Asia. The Embassy in Seoul participated in
providing consular services to victims affected by the disaster by sending
several staff members to Thailand where they served Canadians in distress in
Bangkok and Phuket.

It's that time of the year again and the 2004 Income tax return due date is
April 30, 2005. You can download any necessary forms at http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca
and following the appropriate links.

In our last newsletter, we invited Canadians to submit different ideas and tips
about living and working in Korea that they felt might benefit other Canadians.
In response to this we received a comment from one Canadian in Daegu that
Canadians may wish to take advantage of Korean lessons for Foreigners offered
through the YMCA, as it offered a way to meet and speak with Natives and
proceeds from tuition went to charity. We were also asked to announce that Dr.
Gilles Patry, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ottawa will be
traveling to Seoul in early May. The University would like to invite all of
their alumni living in South Korea to a gathering with Dr. Patry. Interested
alumni are asked to contact Steven Drover at [email protected] at the
University of Ottawa for more information. If you have something that you feel
would benefit Canadians in Korea, please forward us your comments at
[email protected].

Those Canadians living in Seoul may be interested to know that there is now
limited visa issuance service at City Hall. Specifically, the office processes
renewals of D-8 visas for investors and F-3 visas for their dependent families,
F-1 visas for housemaids of investors who have more than $500,000 invested in
Korea, and visa extensions of the before mentioned categories. More information
is available at (02) 2171-2247/2248. As well, the City of Seoul has created a
website helping to explain the routes and information of the new city buses.

For Canadian citizens who are new to Korea, you are invited to register with the
consular section of the Canadian Embassy (Tel.: 02-3455-6000 ext. 3263, Fax:
02-3455-6123). Registration may be made in person, by mail, by fax, or through

important that our registration records are up-to-date. If you change your
address, telephone number or employer or leave the country, please inform the
Consular Section of the embassy. For those Canadians who are in Korea teaching
