Has anyone recently been asked to get a certified criminal report?

I was recently asked to get one from Canada as a requirement to work
at SETI(Seoul Education Training Institute) beginning in March. Well, first I went to the Canada Embassy to inquire about this. I was told that I would have to go to Namdaemun (or Jongro) police station to fill out a fingerprint form - includes my ten(?) fingerprints - and then send this form to the fingerprinting services agency in Ottawa. The embassy staff gave me the rcmp.ca website explaining the process. The information clearly says that the current processing time to obtain a criminal report from Ottawa is IN EXCESS OF one hundred and fifty days! If you add the delivery time from forwarding mail and the return mail, the report will be available to me by AUGUST 10th!! (give or take)

If I do finally receive the criminal report, there's no point in making copies of it as future employers would want the original. The original would be given to SETI. If there were any future requests for a criminal report from employers then I would have to repeat the process again.
Time wasted it seems.

I would welcome responses from anyone with experience in obtaining a criminal report from Canada. If SETI insists that I have to have a criminal report prior to employment with them , then I"m s**t out of luck.

Did they specifically say you needed the certified version? If not, you can send a signed letter with your name and date of birth to your local RCMP detachment in Canada and they will send a ( non certified) letter of conduct to whom ever you tell them too. It's a much faster process and the one I got was enough for the Board of Education in Seoul last year. At the very least, it might buy you some time.

I think it's a great idea for them to ask for this, but if you're out of the country it would be a bit of a bugger. If you're in Canada any police system can do it for $25. I have one from working at a public school in Canada and brought it with me. If you fill it out in black ink it would be really difficult to tell the original from a copy.

I applied for my report back in August...I am still waiting for it!
School keeps bugging me about it and I told them they will get it when I do.

The report is a good idea but is poorly implemented and takes for freaking ever!

I can see, in their infinite wisdom, Koreans suddenly requiring this before getting a job, and no one being able to get it in time.

Wow... would be a windfall for them to make money off of people forced to teach illegally as they waited for the papers.

Oopsss... better not give them any ideas!

It's not a bad idea, but someone with a criminal record would have trouble leaving the country anyway. How about [drum roll] checking references?!!! Now, who wouda thunk of that?

I think that asking for references of other FTs who have worked there would be a great precedent.
