|
|
when I tell my windows 2K Pro to shut down, it does, then starts itself up again immediately as though I'd chosen "Restart".
Also whenever I start up, I just get the wallpaper and a cursor with no icons or start bar- if I then Ctrl-Alt-Del I can get around the problem, but has anyone had this problem before? |

I'm taking no PC advice from you Shawn:

I crashed the new computer pretty badly after doing something stupid (installing drivers from a disk that was only needed for Windows 98 ). Then I just compounded the problem by forgetting how to boot in "safe mode" (pressing F8 during start-up) and deciding to reinstall Windows... |

Hahah...that was an awful experience. When everything on a computer is running fine, it's such a good feeling. When something goes wrong, it feels like hell. |

You make it sound like you had no hand in it- "Things just went wrong!!! Honest!"
The first rule of tech support- everybody lies.
Example-
"Did you do anything questionable just before the problems with your pc occurred, such as visit a questionable site and try to download free porn, or click on an email attachment that promised fantastic Cancun Orgy pics?"
"Why, er, um no..."
"Did you try rebooting? Did you insert the installation disk and select the 'repair' option before calling tech support?"
"Why, er, um, no- I mean YES."
True story:
"Okay, let's reboot now. I'll hold while you reboot"
"What does 'reboot' mean?"
"It means you turn the computer off and then turn it back on."
[5 seconds later]"Okay, I've rebooted."
"Wow! That was fast! Are you sure you rebooted?"
"Yes I pressed the computer's power button and the screen went dead. I pressed it again and the screen came back on."
"Uh, the computer's power button on the case, the box?"
"No, the main one- the one on the screen."
Another true story:
"How do you 'right-click'? Well, look at your mouse- are you looking at your mouse now? Good. How many buttons do you see on the top? Two and a wheel? Great. Press the right mouse button now. Congratulations- that is right-clicking." |

You don't. I was joking.
Bulsajo is anything but a dimwit in computer affairs. You should hope you have no problems, or at least, you don't turn to this forum for help if you are going to keep burning bridges this way with him.
Sorry to Swiss James for taking this off-topic. |
