If it is to be a REAL...tallest building...I'd want to go to the very top...if it's just some type of tower connected to the base of the tallest floor....50, 60 floors and then a 50 meter tower...that does not count korea! |

Strange. Building these enormous, phallic structures, it's almost seems as though they're trying to overcompensate for something.

Foreign designers? Don't we have enough foreigners here already? Why don't we just stack 10 20-story apartuh buildings on top of each other?

Anyone notice that the Namsan Tower claims top 10 towers in the world on above sea-level basis......Sure, build a medium-sized tower on top of a small mountain then compare it to the Eiffel tower.

Shear plates or one huge counterweight (like in Taiwan) is what I'm wondering. |

I like projects like this. Not just because tall towers are fun but because big projects like this are good ways to show people that their country is capable of big things. There are a lot of things Korea doesn't do because it's still stuck in its old mentality, that of being a weak little country bullied by its big neighbours. Things like this will make it easier for me to convince them that they can make a space agency and send probes into the solar system like any other well-developed country worth its salt. |

Hmmm ... a giant tower built by Koreans to Korean building codes.
Doesn't anyone remember that mall that collapsed a few years back and killed all those people.
Heck, my apartu is only a small building a few years old and it already has huge cracks in its facade. |

The Korean Air Force expressed fear that a tall building might interfere with safe airport operations since the construction site happens to be adjacent to the Seoul Military Airport located in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province. The Korean Air Force conveyed its stance to the Song-pa district office that the maximum building height should be lower than 203m for safe airport operations.
According to one Seoul City government official, the construction site is classified as an adjacent area, not an aviation safety area, therefore not subject to Air Force`s approval for construction. He also said that Seoul government is ready to talk about the issue with the Air Force. |
The KAF has a point! Leave it to Korean government officials to not heed warnings.
This won't get off the ground.
We should start a poll: When will the skyscraper be completed?
Never
2010 - with shotty construction
2012 - crack that whip!
2014 - in time for a major sports spectacle or world conference
2020 - a testament to archaic construction practices.
My vote is for never.
Or a better poll: How many construction works and/or by-standers will perish in the construction? |
