|
|
I'm taking a girl out (Korean) and she wants to get Greek or Italian food in Hongdae. I know there's an Italian place off of the main road (it has a menu outside that looked pretty good) that I've always wanted to try, but I can't remember the name of it. I also remember there being a good, romantic Italian place near exit 4 but I can't remember the name of that one either. Suggestions? |

I'll second Agio...I've had some decent meals there. The best Italian food I've had (in Korea) is at CasAntonio in Itaewon. You'll pay quite a bit more, but the atmosphere, service, and food... |

Agio is pretty gross, imo. There is a far better place in Hongdae-- Divino Ristobar. It's actually owned and operated by an Italian dude and he's always there in his restaurant.
I thought Agio was a pretty typical Koreanized restaurant.
CasaAntonio or whatever is decent, but Divino is much more modestly priced with food that's at least as good if not better. Also, it's in Hongdae. It's down a smaller street across from the Children's Park near the Main Gate of the campus. |

the guy who owned Divino is not in the country anymore.
one of the original partners Paolo who was only in DIVINO for the first year moved to the french quarter and opened an Italian Restaurant called
Paolo De Maria fine trattoria.
Divino was sold, but I heard that it's reopened as an Italian restaurant again
anyone checked it out? |

There is a Spanish place that just opened in Seonbawi (sorry my work computer lost the ability to type in hangul) It's in an odd location, but the chef is Spanish, so it has promise. When my girl and I tried to go it was fully booked. El Olivo is the name. I know this isn't Italian or Greek, but I thought I'd pass along the knowledge anyways. |

For Greek there's Greek Joy which is in the park up by the University gate. There's another one down by Buccela called Tony's. |

I went to Tony's tonight, not the best, but definitely not bad. Far better than Santorini in Itaewon. |

Ended up going to Agio, was not impressed. It was very expensive and the food (at least what we got) was average at best. I was stoked about getting a draft hefeweizen until I saw they were asking 6500...no thanks. According to the website I have linked below it's open until 2, but they were closing down at 10 when we arrived. They also f--ked up our order, but we did get a free salad out of it. Won't be going back...this place belongs in Gangnam, not Hongdae.

I read terrible things about Greek Joy so I'm going to pass on that one. I tried looking for Tony's last night and wasn't able to find it using the directions using the site linked below. Can someone give me more specific directions? (And yes, I am aware that exit 5 is now exit 9).

Greek Joy was good...back in 2004-2005. Since then, he let the place go downhill. It went from semi-authentic Greek (feta cheese, nice pitas, heavily seasoned skewers) to Koreanized crap. Which, I guess worked out for him since he still has the place and it's on two floors now. |

Italian food in Korea sucks.
More expensive than the states, no unlimited breadsticks, crappy breadsticks, no good dipping sauce, no meatballs, small servings compared to price. |
