Lotto Winner Gets Life Imprisonment
A man who won 3 billion won in Lotto was later found to have killed his mother and has been sentenced to life imprisonment for murder. A Seoul court on Friday delivered its ruling on the 35-year-old man, identified by his surname Park. Park ran a secondhand camera shop in Seoul and lived with his mother. After his shop closed in November 2002 due to the business slump, he spent his days at home, which led to arguments with his mother. Park eventually stabbed her out of rage in their home in July 2004.
He concealed the body in the house for about one month.
In August, Park stole a bag from a drunken man, identified as Kim, 52, as he slept on a bench in a public park in Yokchon-dong, western Seoul. The bag contained a lottery ticket, which won 3 billion won a few days later.
Park received 2.1 billion won after tax from Kookmin Bank, which operates the lottery. Police later discovered the murder and found that the lucky lotto ticket had originally belonged to Kim.

The murder had nothing to do with him winning the money, which is the flukey thing. |
