I have a Afro-American friend who wants to teach in Korea.
He has a degree from the University of Michigan.
He has also studied in Japan and Korea and he wants to return to Korea to work.
If you are Afro-American and would like to give him advice about finding a job PM me and I will forward you email address to him.
He does not have a user name on D's ESL Cafe.
Thank you for your help. |

I have known one woman who was Afro-American who taught here. Another friend is Maori and has the odd problem with finding a job. She says she can tell in a second or so at an interview whether or not race will be an issue. At the end of the day she has done 3 contracts here, she just has to look a little harder. Tell your friend to go for it, but just to realize what the situation is and that it may take longer than it would for a caucasian teacher.
Cheers

Yeah, go for it as well.. depends entirely on the interview.. and they may take that into consideration just like any other issue (age, background, etc.).
I've known a handful of African-Americans who have taught numerous contracts in Korea.. if they want to be here, they can be here. I've described elsewhere extenively on each of their experiences (somewhere in the archives). All positive from what they shared with me.
I talked to one african-american guy why most Afr-Ams don't come here, and he said many just don't have the interest. (More plausible than just sayings its because all Koreans are all racist). |
