I don't have a lot of time right now (Thur is my 'long day'), but I have an invite for a Winter Wonderland party.
This will be like the An-myon do Beach Party, but set at a nearby ski resort. Cost is 100k pp for the weekend (transpo, accommodations, etc.), 3 people to a cottage/bungalow; they have condo-esque setups, which means privacy & kitchen setups. Skiing/snowboarding is 50k extra per day, but handles equipment rental, lifts, etc.
It is a NICE facility (yep - hot tubs/jacuzzis) at a full resort, and 20+ dj's spinning.
Should be a fun time. I am ONLY going to post it here, and there are only 300 slots available total. If you are interested, please just throw your name up here (don't pm me on this one) - I'll post the full details here later.
Regards,
G.

At what point is one too old to be hanging out at techno parties? I mean when I was 20 or so and still in college, I loved that type of stuff. But at one point I realized....Hmm, I'm a bit too old for this. Haven't been on board for years. Have to say, I do miss the days of jujubeats and such, but I don't want to be "that guy" either.
And yes, there is a point when you're tool old to be going to raves, etc.
John
PS, I'm not trying to insult anyone, it's a real question. At what point do you put away the fuzzy gloves? |

IWG - there are 6 hot tub/jacuzzi setups - still not a lot for that many people; if the individual condo tubs are set up jacuzzi-style (like Hotel Herb, a 2-3 person style) it may be ok.
JH, you do pose a serious/interesting question, and I'll treat it as such: I am lucky, in that I'm in good shape/health, and I look a fair bit younger than my actual age (a lot younger, really). I guess it is just an age related issue of perception - both internal & external.
There MUST be 'an age' where it just doesn't fit anymore, but it is harder to say where that is as the music is changing. While there will be some happy-hardcore, there will also be a lot of ambient/lounge/deep house/drone, etc. It is still electronica/techno. There will also be a lot of turntabilism to old school, anthems, etc. - I love watching/hearing the cutting & scratching, and have some friends who will be spinning there.
Looking at the spinners themselves, a lot of the guys (girls are younger, for the most part) who are actually creating the works are in there mid-late 30's. You'll find them pushing into 40's soon, as well.
Ask them 'Aren't you too old to be spinning?'
They will probably reply, 'Hmmmm - not just yet, I guess.'
Ditto for myself and some others like me. I may well not be as good as I once was, but I am as good for once as ever I was . . .
Like most people, there should come a day when I sigh, and stop wriggling my toes in the mud, laughing with little kids, riding my motorcycle, playing computer games, licking the cake batter bowl, using a beer bong, etc. And, yes, stop going to rave-type events.
Just not yet, John Henry. Not quite yet!
Warmest regards,
Glen
(ps ~ If you had read up the write ups about the An-myun beach party, the Drum party, barefoot escapades, etc. , you would realize that 'rave' is something of a misnomer. It is not going to be all 19 year-old kids in fuzzy white gloves) |

I think it's 100% internal.

Really? Must there be?

Not me. The day I stop those things is the day they bury me.
I love the oldsters (and I'm almost one myself) at the raves, for they are truly free.
Dance like nobody's watching.... |

TN, let me clarify a bit:
I am a very physically active guy. Rollerblade, rock climbing, mountain biking, dancing, snowboarding, romancing, etc.
Mentally, I am internally young. But, I am also aware that there WILL come a point when I will not be able to helicopter, or windmill, or sprint a 50 yard dash any more.
I'm not an adrenaline junkie (anymore!), but sooner or later, my body - like everyone's - will give me a subtle/not-so-subtle signal that somet things I shoudn't/can't do anymore. It is something some athlete's can't wrap themselves around; it is a mortality issue. I have no such (dis)illusions.
I just ain't there yet!
Regards,
G. |

G - Just so you know, I don't have the organizer's digits or e-mail. At least hook me up with that so I can get the details... |

For anyone who wants to know/go, this shindig is being organized by Myke Hollidaze, our dj from the last ESL get-together (the gyopo on the decks at Liquid Lounge), ex-manager of MWG, and good friend/ all-around swell guy.
Here's an e-m addy:
<[email protected]>
But I won't post a hp# here for him. If you NEED to call him, send me a pm, & I'll send it to you that way.
(mods, don't worry - Myke says it's ok for us to post his e-m here for event stuff; it isn't a personal e-m addy, anyway) |

dnk ~
the last few events have been full blown - once they got decks set up @ An-myon, there were djs still spinning through dawn & the afternoon on Sunday, even after we all had pretty much left.
We expect the same here. More solid details as I get them, but - & this is just a guess! - there will either be one big condo set up as a makeshift club, orrrr we will take over the condo built-in 'nite-uh cuh-lub.'
regards,
G.
